Ultrajet Propels Kyungnam-Do’s News Boat

New owners Kyungnam-Do of Korea, has just taken delivery of a twin UltraJet 575 propelled fire boat for service in the Masan Port of Korea.  Built by Gwangdong FRP Co., this rapid response fire and rescue craft has an overall length of 86 ft and a beam of 16.7 ft.

Twin 1360 kW (1825 hp) Caterpillar C32 DITA engines power the UltraJet 575 waterjets via Reintjes WVS430/1 gearboxes with a ratio of 1.48:1.  The UltraJet and engine combination provides high thrust and fully loaded the vessel achieves a top speed of 35 knots.

Ultra Dynamics JetMaster joystick control system provides excellent manoeuvrability and fine control at all speeds, enabling the helmsman to precisely rotate and position the boat when using the fire pumps.

Kyungnam-Do’s 704 fire boat is built to a design from KR Engineering Co. Ltd.  The hull form is a deep-V moulded in GRP.  It is equipped with fire fighting pumps with a discharge of 66,043 gallons/hour at a range of 164 ft and fire fighting foam.

As well as being equipped to undertake major fire fighting the vessel will carry out rescue and towing missions.  The vessel is fitted with a stern launchable 5m  RIB and towing beam and quick release towing hook.  It has a bollard pull capacity of up to 3 tonnes.
