June 18, 2002

Italian classification society RINA's Fire Research Laboratory has become the only classification society fire test laboratory in Europe to obtain USCG approval. RINA's Genoa-based Fire Research Laboratory has been accepted by the Coast Guard as an independent laboratory authorized to perform tests for non-combustibility, A, B and F fire class divisions, surface flammability, primary deck coverings, vertically supported textiles, furniture and bedding, in accordance with IMO specifications. This USCG approval recognizes RINA's fire test laboratory as one of the world's leading facilities in the marine field. This approval, along with the recognition of RINA by the Italian Administration as a notified body under the European Marine Equipment Directive, allows the society to provide top flight fire test services to ship equipment and outfit manufacturers and yards world wide.
