CMA CGM Box Ship is the Largest to Call Brazil

Containership CMA CGM Tigris, one of the newest vessels in the CMA CGM fleet, is due to call the Port of Santos on February, 6, making the French shipping company the first carrier to introduce a vessel of such a capacity in Brazil, the CMA CGM Group announced today.

The 10,622 TEU CMA CGM Tigris will be added to the fixed-day and weekly SEAS2 service, calling 13 ports to connect Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay to China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and South Africa – all within 90 days.

The Malta-flagged box ship was delivered December 23, 2014 as the fourth vessel in a series of 28 new orders for CMA CGM.

According to CMA CGM, the 300m long and 48m wide Tigris responds to the Brazilian market specificities as it is equipped with the largest capacity in reefer plugs (1,458) on such a ship, allowing large loading capacity for some of Brazil’s most exported products, including meat, poultry and fruits. Additionally, the ship’s structure fits with the draft constraints and infrastructure of Brazilian ports.

CMA CGM opened its first office in Brazil in 2003 and has since expanded throughout the country to now have 10 direct lines calling 20 Brazilian ports and more than 300 staff members working in 17 offices.
