September 4, 2013

The Panamanian-flagged vehicle carrier 'Caribbean Highway', 110 miles off San Diego, contacted the Coast Guard  requesting assistance for a 21-year-old crewmember who was in labor.

A MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Sector San Diego transported a Coast Guard flight surgeon and civilian midwife to the ship to help delivery of a baby girl.

The ship continued toward San Diego through the night and the mother and baby were taken to Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for further care.
