Lockheed Martin Renames Maritime Business

August 8, 2002

Lockheed Martin has re-named its Marine Traffic Management business to better reflect its capabilities in the areas of marine navigation, coastal and harbor surveillance and homeland security. The business, based in Syracuse, N.Y., now will be known as Maritime Safety, Security and Surveillance (MS3).

"Our former name didn't reflect a large part of our business - using state-of-the-art technology to help protect and secure harbors," said Paolo Amadio, senior manager, business development, MS3. "We will continue to provide our domestic and international customers with high-quality, well-crafted maritime safety solutions while re-focusing our attention on the many issues involving security and maritime surveillance of coastlines, harbors and specific coastal targets of opportunity."

Lockheed Martin provides maritime safety systems to the United States Coast Guard under its Ports and Waterways Safety Systems (PAWSS) contract. Systems have been installed in Valdez, Alaska, and New Orleans, La. Lockheed Martin also has similar systems in operation or under construction in fourteen countries on five continents.

MS3 products and capabilities include software, which provides an integrated database of information for ship operators and those onshore, who monitor ships. The various surveillance systems also use Commercial Off-the-Shelf technology (COTS), along with video cameras and processing; underwater swimmer detection; sensors and AIS transponders.
