Laurin Maritime to Utilize Bass’ SAFIR

August 22, 2003

BASS today announced that Laurin Maritime has signed an agreement for delivery of SAFIR for optimizing the administration of reporting according to the chapter 9 of the ISM code. Laurin Maritime will also utilize the system further by including internal audits, inspections and other company specific procedures. Laurin Maritime is installing SAFIR as a central database set-up in their office in Houston and will access the same database remotely from their office in Gothenburg. Furthermore they will install SAFIR on their 10 vessels and also on the newbuildings arriving during the next couple of years. " We have a strong commitment to continuous improvement and have chosen BASS’ SAFIR 4.1 as a document control system in order to streamline our Safety Management System as well as improve the experience transfer and feedback process between the ship and shore organization. ” says, Sam Ball, the Quality and Environmental Protection Manager of Laurin Maritime Group. By installing the new Safir 4.1 onboard their vessels, their safety management system becomes fully streamlined. All incident and inspection reports are entered onboard the ships and automatically transmitted to the office via the BASS Replicator and Laurin Maritime’s e-mail system. Full analysis, feedback and experience transfers are dispatched back to the ships in the same manner. “Laurin Maritime’s on-board management set-up allows for a high utilisation of the information flow that SAFIR gives between the ships and offices”, adds Mr. Geir Michaelsen, Business Manager, BASS AS
