French ferry operator Corsica Linea has signed 10-year Guaranteed Asset Performance (GAP) agreement with Wärtsilä to help ensure optimal performance of the power systems onboard the company’s new liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled RoPax vessel A Galeotta, which will sail between Marseille and Corsica in France. Wärtsilä announce it has signed a renewal of its Optimized Maintenance Agreement with the Greek shipping company Maran Gas Maritime, part of Angelicoussis Shipping Group (ASGL). The new agreement will run for five additional years, and is designed to ensure operational certainty with controlled and predictable costs for Maran Gas’s fleet of 21 TFDE LNG carrier vessels. The signing took place on May 3, 2022.The Maran Gas vessels are all powered by Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines.

Finland-based marine engine and technology specialist Wärtsilä has signed agreements with the Japanese shipping group MMS to optimize maintenance and emissions for two MMS LNG carriers and maximize engine uptime.Wärtsilä said the agreements were designed to deliver maximized engine uptime and long-term cost predictability, optimizing maintenance for the highest efficiency, and lowest carbon footprint.The project includes Wärtsilä’s digital predictive maintenance solution, Expert Insight.

Wärtsilä signed a long-term Wärtsilä Optimized maintenance solution with Japan's Tokyo LNG Tanker Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Tokyo Gas. Wärtsilä and Viking Line signed an Optimized Maintenance agreement for the Wärtsilä LNGPac system onboard passenger ferry Viking Grace, significant in that it is the first Optimized Maintenance agreement ever made for Wärtsilä LNGPac, a complete gas handling system for ships fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Viking Grace was the first passenger ferry to useLNG as a fuel source. The agreement also includes Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) and online support for the Wärtsilä LNGPac system.

Wärtsilä and Maran Gas Maritime (MGM) extend their current cooperation with a five-year maintenance agreement covering the maintenance of MGM's 21 TFDE (tri-fuel diesel electric) LNG carriers that are equipped with Wärtsilä 50DF engines. Maran Gas Maritime Inc. is the LNG shipping unit of the Angelicoussis Shipping Group and one of the major players in the worldwide LNG transportation. The group company operates a fleet of approximately 130 merchant vessels globally with 33 of these being LNG vessels - 21 of which are TFDE.

The technology group Wärtsilä has been contracted to provide both equipment and maintenance for FSRU and LNG carrier vessels of Norway based operator, Höegh LNG. The orders were booked in the first quarter of 2017. Two new 170,000 m3 LNG carrier vessels being built for Höegh LNG at the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) and Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) shipyards in Korea will each be powered by four Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines. There is an option for a further three vessels in the SHI series. The two vessels will also feature the latest Wärtsilä regasification technology to operate as FSRUs.

Desgagnés has taken delivery of the duel-fuel tanker M/T Damia Desgagnés, a brand new vessel recently built in Turkey. A next generation and state-of-the-art asphalt-bitumen-chemical tanker, she is the first of a series of four oil carriers, custom-built according to an original concept developed by Desgagnés and ordered at the Besiktas shipyard located in Yalova near Istanbul, Turkey. The Damia Desgagnés is the first dual-fuel powered Canadian-flagged tanker and the first-ever asphalt carrier of this type. Double-hulled, she is equipped with a Wärtsila 5RT-flex 50DF engine developing a power output of 5,450 kW. The ship can be powered by any of three types of fuel, namely heavy fuel oil, marine diesel oil or liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Wärtsilä has signed a five-year maintenance agreement with Estonia based AS Tallink Grupp for its new RoPax ferry M/S Megastar on the Tallinn - Helsinki route across the Gulf of Finland. Megastar, due to start operation on January 29, 2017, is powered by Wärtsilä dual-fuel engines which operate primarily on liquefied natural gas (LNG), to meet the requirements of environmental legislation. Under the agreement Wärtsilä said it will optimize the vessel's performance, enhance its availability and reliability, and improve financial predictability for the customer. The service agreement also covers Wärtsilä's Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) and online remote support.

Wärtsilä has signed a ten-year maintenance agreement with MOL LNG Transport Europe Ltd., an affiliate of the Japanese MOL Group. The agreement, which covers two LNG carriers, increases the predictability of the vessels' operations, enhances safety and reduces operational costs. The comprehensive service agreement includes all scheduled engine maintenance activities, workshop services and online remote support. With Wärtsilä's Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) solution, maintenance activities for the two vessels' engines can be planned based on actual engine condition rather than following a strict calendar-based schedule. The CBM solution controls and extends the engine maintenance intervals, reducing operational costs and downtime.

Wärtsilä said it has signed a contract with Construcciones Navales del Norte SL (LaNaval) shipyard in Sestao, Spain for the design and supply of the LNG power and propulsion installation for a new RoRo passenger ferry being built for Spanish owner Baleària, an operator serving the Balearic Islands. There is also an option for a second vessel. The contract, signed in August 2016, will also see Wärtsilä provide inclusive project support services to the yard, including integration engineering and on-site consulting, as well as commissioning of the combined systems.

Wärtsilä has signed a five-year maintenance agreement with the Nigerian gas transportation company Bonny Gas Transport Limited, (BGT), a subsidiary of Nigeria LNG Limited. Wärtsilä will monitor and service the engines on board the BGT's six new LNG carriers and deliver spare parts, as well as expertise for inspections and major service overhauls. The contract marks the beginning of a new era of cooperation between Wärtsilä and BGT, and is the first of its kind for Wärtsilä in Africa. Nigeria LNG Limited exports most of its cargo to the European Asian markets. The six LNG carriers are equipped with five Wärtsilä 50DF engines each and operate primarily on gas.

A total of 16 new gas carrier ships being built in Japan for Japanese owners are to be powered by Wärtsilä dual-fuel engines capable of running on liquefied natural gas (LNG) or conventional diesel fuels. Wärtsilä's said its experience and technological capabilities in gas fuelled propulsion solutions were cited as being key factors in the award of these contracts – all placed between the second half of 2014 and December 2015. Wärtsilä informs it has signed a maintenance agreement with the GasLog LNG Services Limited that aims to ensure the reliability of operation of GasLog's seven LNG carriers, each having a cargo capacity of 155,000 cbm. According to Wärtsilä, the demand for predictive analytics and advisory services is increasing. By analyzing the data collected from GasLog's vessels, Wärtsilä said it is able to provide valuable information regarding the condition of the equipment, which enables GasLog to optimize maintenance and asset performance.

The first in a series of 27,500 cbm 'Dragon' class vessels ordered by Evergas, a world renowned owner and operator of seaborne petrochemical and liquid gas transport vessels, is being delivered from the Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (SOE) shipyard in China today. The vessel features a comprehensive Wärtsilä solutions package, including two Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines, Wärtsilä propulsion equipment including the gearbox, two Wärtsilä 20DF auxiliary generating sets, a Wärtsilä LNG fuel system and a Wärtsilä cargo handling system. The various systems are fully integrated to achieve maximum efficiencies. The order with Wärtsilä was placed in the beginning of 2013.

The Wärtsilä 50DF marine engine has been tested and certified to run on ethane (LEG) fuel. The testing program was carried out by Wärtsilä in close collaboration with Evergas, an owner and operator of seaborne petrochemical and liquid gas transport vessels. "We are very pleased that the Wärtsilä engines will be capable of utilizing ethane boil-off gas as fuel. It increases our operational efficiency and improves flexibility in the bunkering of fuels. All in all it results in a significant reduction in operating costs, while also providing a minimal environmental footprint. It also enables us to offer our customers increased flexibility, which has a monetary value to them," said Steffen Jacobsen, the CEO of Evergas.

A new fast ropax ferry ordered by the Estonia based Tallink Grupp for its Tallinn - Helsinki route, will feature Wärtsilä dual-fuel engines running primarily on liquefied natural gas (LNG). The ship is to be built at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland and is scheduled to be in operation from the beginning of 2017. The contract with Wärtsilä was signed in February. By opting for Wärtsilä's dual-fuel (DF) engine technology with LNG used as the main fuel, the ship will comply with the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) latest sulphur emissions legislation which came into force in January 2015. The Baltic Sea is designated as a Sulphur Emissions Control Area (SECA).

Three new 27,000 cbm LNG/Multigas Carriers for Evergas, the Denmark based transporter of petrochemical gases and natural gas liquids, are to be built featuring the integrated Wärtsilä solution, comprising the main propulsion equipment, the gas fuel supply system, and the cargo handling system. This order is an extension of the one placed in 2013 for a series of three similar vessels. The ships are being built by the Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (SOE) shipyard in China, and feature an advanced design that offers very high efficiency and unparalleled flexibility.

Five new Arc 7 design ice-class LNG carriers being built at the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) yard in South Korea will be powered by a total of 30 Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines. The vessels will operate in arctic conditions to serve the Yamal LNG project in Northern Russia. The order was placed in January with Wärtsilä's joint venture company, Wärtsilä Hyundai Engine Co. (WHEC) who will also build the engines in South Korea. Each of the LNG carriers will be fitted with four 12-cylinder Wärtsilä 50DF engines and two 9-cylinder Wärtsilä 50DF engines. The engines will primarily utilise liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel, but are also capable of running on conventional marine diesel fuels.

The Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) yard in South Korea has ordered a total of 54 Wärtsilä dual fuel engines to power 172,600 cbm icebreaking LNG carriers being built for use in arctic conditions to serve the Yamal LNG project in Northern Russia. The ships will be owned by one joint venture between Teekay LNG Partners of Canada and China LNG Shipping (CLNG), and another joint venture between China Shipping LNG Investment Co.,Ltd. (CSLNG) and Japan based Mitsui O.S.K.

It will be the first Swedish flagged LNG powered passenger vessel and the first LNG-fuelled high speed RoPax ferry in the world. The vessel will be built at the Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) yard in China and when delivered, will sail between the Swedish mainland and the island of Gotland. GSI placed the contract with Wärtsilä in November.
