RCL Project Genesis to be Equipped with CleanSea

Royal Caribbean’s Genesis Class vessels will introduce numerous technological advancements within the cruise industry. In particular, leading-edge environmental technology continues as a high priority in support of the Royal Caribbean’s “Save the Waves” initiatives. Hydroxyl’s CleanSea advanced wastewater purification systems will enable the Genesis Class vessels to reliably treat all biodegradable water streams generated onboard prior to safe discharge to the ocean. With CleanSea in operation onboard, Genesis Class vessels will be able to operate within sensitive aquatic and coastal regions, while minimizing their impacts on the environment.

Cruise Ships to get Wastewater Upgrades

Wastewater treatment systems on four popular cruise ships will receive a $9.2 million upgrade intended to enhance compliance with marine discharge regulations, according to a release issued by Hydroxyl Systems Inc. Hydroxyl, a Victoria-based manufacturer, was recently awarded contracts from Miami-based Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines to design and build four CleanSea environmental water process systems, said the report. The systems will combine Hydroxyl's bio-film carrier process for high-rate biodegradation with its dissolved air flotation equipment, both of which decrease space requirements and system lifecycle costs, Hydroxyl representatives said in the release.
