Volvo Penta’s Bonivich Named 'Darlene Briggs Woman of Year'

Susan Bonivich, OEM/dealer sales manager for Volvo Penta of the Americas, was named the 2016 Darlene Briggs Woman of the Year at the Marine Dealer Conference & Expo today in Orlando, Fla. She is the second woman in the company to earn the distinction within the past 10 years. Presented by the MRAA Educational Foundation and Boating Industry magazine, the award is named for industry leader Darlene Briggs and is given annually to an outstanding woman who demonstrates leadership, commitment and the advancement of women in the boating business. “Susan Bonivich represents the spirit of what is great about this industry,” said Ron Huibers, president, Volvo Penta of the Americas. “She develops and nurtures relationships that are time and event tested.

Obituary: Martin J. Canfield

Martin J. Martin Jay “Marty” Canfield, 59, of Iola, Kansas, died Monday, November 2, 2015, at the Allen County Regional Hospital. Marty was born July 22, 1956, in Independence, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Navy for 11 years, and following his time in the service, he traveled working at nuclear power plants before becoming a field service engineer for Boiler Controls. Marty was in the marine engine room automation industry for more than 20 years servicing ships all over the world, working for G.R.Bowler, Inc. Marine & Industrial Controls, managing its VA shop for 13 years.

Holland America Line $4.3 mi Aid to fight Cancer

In honor of World Cancer Day, Holland America Line announced that to date, the guests and employees of the company have raised more than $4.3 million for cancer support through “On Deck” programming that began in 2006. Currently, the “On Deck for a Cause” program benefits six international cancer organizations located in the United States, Canada, Australia, Netherlands, Germany and United Kingdom. On Deck for a Cause invites guests to participate in a noncompetitive 5k fundraising walk on every sailing aboard each of the line’s 15 ships, with proceeds distributed among the American Cancer Society, Canadian Cancer Society, Cancer Council Australia, Cancer Research UK, Deutsche Krebshilfe (German Cancer Aid) and KWF Kankerbestrijding (Dutch Cancer Society).

Ingalls Shipbuilding Named Platinum Fit-Friendly Worksite

Ingalls Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, says it is doing its part to fight obesity and bolster the health of its employees. The shipyard's health-conscious changes have helped it succeed as a Platinum Fit-Friendly Worksite. Fit-Friendly Worksites are recognized by the American Heart Association as employers who go above and beyond when it comes to employee health. These companies offer both nutritional services and physical activities aimed at supporting the employees' health. "We are honored to receive this award," said Edmond E. Hughes, Ingalls' vice president of human resources and administration. "There were only four companies in the state of Mississippi to earn a Platinum status, so we are part of a very selective group in the state.

Lighthouse Relay Baton Arrives in USA

A commemorative baton sent on its way from Europe by Inchcape Shipping Services and containing a scroll with all nominated charities listed on it, has arrived by participant ship in Mobile, Alabama, on its way to Panama City. Inchcape CEO Capt. Claus Hyldager was earlier the originator of the ISS Lighthouse Relay Voyage, a major Corporate Social Responsibility initiative benefiting disadvantaged communities in all the countries around the world where ISS does business.
