ANSYS Speeds International Yacht Race Winner

Powered by ANSYS solutions to maximize yacht aerodynamics, 'Emirates Team New Zealand' has captured the Louis Vuitton Cup and won the right to compete in the 34th America's Cup. Faced with the challenge of making fast design improvements to its yacht to stay hyper-competitive, Emirates Team New Zealand used a 100 percent simulation-driven development process — eliminating the need for physical prototypes. Team engineers used ANSYS® computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solutions to virtually test different designs, considering up to 750 operating conditions per design.

SPEX Doubles Turnover

SPEX Group, an Aberdeen-headquartered provider of innovative technology solutions and services to the global oil and gas industry, is investing in one of the U.K.’s smartest supercomputers capable of carrying out more than 100 trillion operations per second. The supercomputer, dubbed the Claymore, is being developed in partnership with Dell and ANSYS and can solve problems at least 20 times faster than the industry norm. It will incorporate 75 times the RAM of a High-end workstation, allowing enhanced processing and graphics capability on complex simulation and modeling problems.

Finite Element Solutions

The international marine industry faces unprecedented challenges today. Energy costs are rising, as are concerns about reduced pollutant emissions, water ballast treatment and other environmental impacts. A tight credit market and cash-strapped operators mean that engineers must deliver designs with a high degree of fidelity and reliability while reducing the development cycle. Extreme weather, hazardous cargoes and other challenging operating conditions present the need to continually innovate, implement new materials and deliver analyses confidently.

Offshore Structural Strength Analysis Software Launched by DNV

DNV Software introduces new 6.3 version of Sesam GeniE, to provide strength analysis through the entire lifecycle of fixed offshore structures. To avoid catastrophes at oil or gas field operations it is vital that a thorough strength analysis is done before a structure is operative. The effects of wave, wind and fatigue determine the duration and profitability of the operation, and correct calculations are critical. Efficient strength analysis throughout all stages of the life cycle of an offshore structure – construction…
