Tier IV Tug Athena Delivered to Crowley

Crowley has taken delivery of Athena, its fourth and most powerful Tier IV ship assist and harbor escort tugboat.The 77-foot Athena provides the agility of its compact size without the sacrifice of power – offering the most bollard pull for a tug under 80 feet in the market. The Robert Allan Ltd.-designed RApport 2500 D vessel operates on a pair of 3,386-horsepower Caterpillar Marine 3516 Tier IV-compliant engines, resulting in lower greenhouse gas emissions while achieving a power output of nearly 6,800 horsepower and 96 tons of bollard pull.

Berg Propulsion Opens Office in Istanbul

Berg Propulsion opened new offices in Istanbul to reinforce its presence in Turkey and the surrounding region. The operation will be led by Mustafa Müslüm, who has been appointed General Manager, Berg Propulsion Eurasia.Müslüm is familiar with the Berg Propulsion organization, having led regional activities on behalf of Berg Propulsion between 2005 and 2013 Istanbul and Dubai. Caterpillar to Acquire Berg Propulsion

Caterpillar Inc. signed a definitive agreement to acquire Johan Walter Berg AB, including its core brand of Berg Propulsion, a leading manufacturer of mechanically and electrically driven propulsion systems and marine controls for ships. With the acquisition, Caterpillar will transition from selling only engines and generators to providing complete marine propulsion package systems. Headquartered in Öckerö Islands, Sweden, Berg has designed and manufactured heavy-duty marine thrusters and controllable pitch propellers since 1929.

Canada's Newest Ferry – Grand Manan Adventure – Back to Work

The new 85.37m GRAND MANAN ADVENTURE passenger/vehicle ferry has returned back to Black’s Harbour, New Brunswick after being drydocked at a shipyard in Halifax, Nova Scotia due to an internal mechanical failure of one of the two 470 kw electric motor driven bowthrusters. Eastern Shipbuilding Group, builder of the ferry from Panama City, Florida, and Berg Propulsion, each sent representatives to Halifax, to oversee the repairs and ensure the ferry’s timely return back to service.

GPA Wins Astromaritima Contract for Two OSRVs

In 2010, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering firm Guido Perla & Associates, Inc. (GPA) signed a contract with Brazilian shipyard Estaleiro Ilha S.A. (Eisa) for one GPA 462-10 OSRV, designed specifically to Petrobras requirements (OSRV 750-10). Later on, an order for an additional OSRV followed. Both vessels are currently under construction at EISA for the Brazilian offshore operator Astromaritima Navegacao S/A. The 64-meter vessels are outfitted with a diesel-electric propulsion system comprised of Caterpillar and Berg Propulsion equipment.

In 2011, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering firm Guido Perla & Associates, Inc. (GPA) signed a contract with Brazilian shipyard EISA. Estaleiro Ilha for two GPA 675 PSV designed specifically to Petrobras requirements (PSV 3000). Both vessels are currently under construction at EISA for the Brazilian offshore operator Astromaritima Navegacao S/A. The vessels are outfitted with a diesel-electric propulsion system comprised of equipment by Berg Propulsion and Caterpillar. The system consists of two azimuthing drives, each rated for 2,500kW and two bow thrusters, each rated for 750kW.
