Interesting Launch for Interesting Tugs

The ownership of the Canadian firm Island Tug and Barge has changed with the purchase by the U.S. parent company Tidewater Inc. The firm is now known as Island Tug.The second tug, with the hull and superstructure completed and with the Cummins K38s installed still requires more work, was also launched in early May of 2018.The vessels were built in a warehouse on the Fraser River. With no launching facility and a railway track between the yard and the steep bank of the river, it took some innovative heavy lifting.

Pentair Opens Aquaculture Center of Excellence

Mindful that fish farming has the potential to help meet an expanding  population's need for protein in a world with increasing water constraints, Pentair announced the opening of its Pentair Aquatic Eco-Systems' World Aquaculture Technology Engineering & Research Center of Excellence in Apopka, Florida. The center, which consists of 12,400 square feet of laboratories and fish culture systems, will be used for demonstration, research and teaching activities. Built to allow full connectivity to the Internet, customers and educational institutions will be able to monitor online the progress of fish culture trials, including water quality, feeding, feed conversion ratios, growth rates, energy consumption and harvesting activities.

Miller to Spearhead Delta T Complete HVAC

Delta T Systems announced the appointment of HVAC veteran Bob Miller to its staff. In his role as HVAC specialist of the new Delta T Complete vessel ventilation program, Miller's goal is to set a new benchmark of reliability in marine heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and to spearhead the HVAC portion of the new Delta T Complete program, which the company said was formed to offer boatbuilders a one-stop shop for all of their vessels' ventilation requirements, including engine room ventilation, HVAC, galley and head ventilation and unmanned space ventilation.
