Mr. Bollinger joins 12 other exceptional business, civic and cultural leaders from across North America in receiving 2023 honors.

Commercial workboat philanthropy on display on PT-305: WWII Museum’s PT-305 sails again after a far reaching donor-funded restoration. In March, the National WWII Museum in New Orleans launched its reconstructed PT-305, built locally by Higgins Industries in 1943. The museum acquired the boat known as the USS Sudden Jerk in 2007, restoration began in 2009, and it now sails Lake Pontchartrain as an interactive exhibit. PT-305, with a fifteen-man crew, belonged to a 12-ship squadron operating in the Mediterranean from 1944 until the war ended in 1945.

On Saturday June 18, Webb Institute awarded 19 Bachelor of Science degrees at its 120th Commencement Ceremony. Each graduating student received a dual degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. was awarded the 2012 “Award for Excellence in Safety” by the Shipbuilders Council of America for the eighth consecutive year. On April 11, 2013, The Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA) presented the “Award for Excellence in Safety” to Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. during the association’s Spring General Membership Meeting in Washington, DC. The Award for Excellence in Safety is given to member companies with the lowest Total Recordable Incident Rates (TRIR) based on a quarterly injury and illness survey conducted by the association.

Jodi Satches named 2011-2012 Safety Professional of the Year by Signal Mutual Indemnity Association Ltd. Chris Bollinger sets the table for an exciting 2013 & beyond. Maritime Reporter caught up with Chris Bollinger on a recent trip to the Gulf Coast for the October 26, 2012, christening of Bollinger’s latest newbuild; the first two of four tugboats in Crowley Maritime’s ocean class series, Ocean Wave and Ocean Wind. The award, which is Signal’s highest honor, was presented at the Signal Mutual Board of Directors meeting held on January 20, 2012 in Vail, Colorado. Bollinger was selected from the more than two hundred Signal Mutual Members based upon a number of factors including safety contributions to the industry. “This award is validation of the tireless efforts by every member of the Bollinger shipbuilding team in creating a safe working environment and a safety culture that is second to none,” said Bollinger.

Companies building vessels on the U.S. Gulf are servicing a flock of domestic and overseas clients while their offshore oil and gas customers wait for Washington to issue more drilling permits and safety rules. Some of the region's builders are busy making repairs. After a federal ban on deepwater drilling ended in October — three months after BP's well was capped — the Gulf remains quiet, but industry members expect business to improve eventually. Marine companies along the Gulf of Mexico have seen little new business since the offshore drilling moratorium was lifted in early October as oil producers apply for permits and decide how to navigate costly safety regulations. At Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., one of the top U.S. boat builders, Chief Executive Officer Boysie Bollinger, said “we're waiting for BOEM to start issuing offshore drilling permits, and no one has any idea when that will be.” He wonders if the government knows when more permits will be released.
