First Icebreaking LNG Carrier Ready for Service

The world’s first icebreaking liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, Christophe de Margerie, has berthed at the gas terminal at Sabetta Port in Russia, becoming the first vessel to do so. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) announced that the coal carrier Energy Prometheus, which will be operated by MOL to ship coal to Hokuriku Electric Power Company, was completed on May 15 at the Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. US Navy Braces for Budget Cut Battles

Reuters –  Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Jonathan Greenert told reporters late on Monday that the Navy would have no choice but to curtail funding for a planned refueling of the nuclear-powered USS George Washington aircraft carrier if sharp cuts in military spending remained in effect for 2016 and beyond. Such a decision, he said, would have a big impact on the shipbuilding industrial base, noting that the refueling involved several hundred thousand man-days of work, and could affect the ability of carrier building Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc to build the next aircraft carrier.

USS Carl Vinson Arresting Gear Engines Reinstalled

A team from Northrop Grumman Newport News reinstalled USS Carl Vinson's (CVN 70) arresting gear engines into the ship's flight deck, June 6.
