GTT Scores Tank Design Order for LNG Carrier Pair

French engineering firm GTT announced it has received an order from its partner the Korean shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for the tank design of two new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. As part of this order, GTT will design the tanks of the vessels, which will each offer a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters. The LNG carrier tanks will be fitted with the GTT Mark III Flex membrane containment system.Deliveries of the vessels will take place between late 2024 and early 2025.

New Nippon Paint Targets Chem, Product Carriers

Nippon Paint Marine has added to its NOA range of self-indicating epoxy coatings with a new system specially developed to protect chemical and product carrier tanks from corrosion and cargo contamination.NOA PC 700, a phenolic/novolac-based epoxy, is resistant to a wide range of chemicals, solvents and petroleum products, including those containing xylenes, methyl ethyl ketone, methanol, caustic soda and LSA fuel oil.Makoto Nakagawa, General Manager Sales and Marketing, Nippon Paint Marine Coatings…

Transforming Mid-Scale Liquefied Gas

The Type B Mid-Scale Containment Solution.SSRC Technologies AS introduces a novel containment solution for small and mid-scale liquefied gas carriers. The Type B containment system provides excellent thermal performance, low weight and ease of fabrication. In cooperation with world-renown Moss Maritime AS, the patented Type B containment system has been specifically developed for the mid-scale LPG, NH3, Petchem and LNG markets. The SSRC system is also uniquely suited to scalable floating storage and regasification solutions…

New Inert Gas Systems from Alfa Laval

LNG and LPG carrier tanks hold both a source of income and a potential source of danger. To avert the danger, inert gas systems (IGS) have been required on all new tankers over 20,000 dwt since 1978 — a move that has surely saved untold lives. Yet with increasing demand, tighter delivery schedules, the constant need to optimize onboard footprints and numerous other factors, Alfa Laval believes IGS should go beyond fire safety to protect against other disasters that chisel away at the potential income for both shipyards and shipowners.

GTT Wins CWC LNG Technological Innovation Award

On the occasion of the World LNG Summit held in Paris on November 18-21, 2013, GTT was awarded the LNG Technological Innovation Award 2013 by CWC for its work on the development of its membrane containment systems to reduce the daily Boil-Off in LNG Carrier tanks. The LNG Technological award rewards an active member of the LNG industry, a company that has made a positive commercial or technical contribution to the LNG production, transportation or regasification over the years through commercial innovation and creativity.

Hyundai Heavy Completes Test for Ice-breaking Ore Carrier

Hyundai Heavy Industries, the world’s biggest shipbuilder, today announced the completion of the final performance test for a model ship of 190,000 DWT ice-breaking iron ore carriers at Institute for Ocean Technology in Canada. When the actual 190,000 DWT iron ore carrier is built, the iron ore carrier will be the world’s largest ice-breaking commercial ship. It will be able to navigate 1.7 m thick ice-covered waters with a speed of 6 knots. The ship will measure 310 m in length and 51 m in width.
