Fjord Ferry Equipped with RFID Technology

With their new ferries Fjord Line is the first ferry operator using RFID technology for their cabin locks, setting a new world record, the company reported. They are also the first ferry operator to serve their passengers with contactless RFID boarding control. Carus have taken full project responsibility for providing the software, the handheld RFID scanners and the implementation of the solution that enables Fjord Line passengers to board and disembark using contactless RFID cards.

Wightlink Upgrades Ticketing System

Wightlink Ferries has announced it will be introducing the CarRes reservation and ticketing system. The decision to replace the existing system was made to improve reliability as well as to enable the company to offer an improved booking service to customers. In addition to the core CarRes booking and ticketing functionality, the project will provide the opportunity to deploy the latest online booking technology (including a mobile optimized site in the future), the web based Business Intelligence module and the Carus port automation framework which will initially support the handheld embarkation scanners. CarRes will be hosted within the Carus data center in Mariehamn, Finland and will be implemented during the coming months with an anticipated project completion by the end of 2013.

Ferry Guru joins Carus Board

At Carus' Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on the 29th of April, Ove Johan Solem was appointed Non-Executive Director of the Board. Ove has 30 years of experience in shipping and offshore industries. He was MD of Fjord Line and Executive VP of Color Line before changing direction to bring his knowledge to the offshore industry. Most recently Ove has held senior management and board positions within the First Olsen group of companies. He holds an MBA in International Shipping. www.carus.com

Interferry Wins Long Term Support

Recognition of Interferry’s growing role as a voice for the ferry industry has prompted classification society DNV and bookings/check-in systems specialist Carus to pledge long-term financial support for the trade association and its annual conference. Interferry offers two top-level Platinum sponsorships for the event – and each organisation has signed a five-year deal after stressing their belief that the association has a key role to play, not least in ensuring regulators take account of the impact of future legislation before it is passed.

Ven-Trafiken chooses Carus

Another island ferry operator has chosen Carus as supplier for their booking and ticketing systems. After a thorough evaluation, Ven-Trafiken concluded that Carus offered the best solution in terms of skills, experience, cost and quality. Ven-Trafiken is going through a major business upgrade which includes a new ferry, a new terminal in Landskrona and the renewal and modernization of their systems. Carus will deliver its CarRes reservation system for booking and ticketing which will include systems to enable ticket sales and control even on board the ferries.
