Coast Guard Assists Grounded Cargo Ship

The Philippine Coast Guard said its personnel in Cebu rendered assistance to a cargo vessel that ran aground at the vicinity waters of Madridejos, Bantayan Island last Sunday, January 19. LCT 208, with 24 crew members onboard, was reportedly unloading its cargo of sand and gravel while moored at Kaongkod Wharf when its mooring lines was suddenly severed due to strong winds and large waves. The vessel drifted on the shallow area of the wharf and eventually ran aground on its sandy portion. Upon receipt of the information, the personnel of Coast Guard Station (CGS) Cebu immediately verified its veracity and rendered necessary assistance. The crew of the 586 GT vessel likewise conducted a hull inspection and found no damage.
