Cincinnati Gear Closes

According to reports, Cincinnati Gear Company closed its doors after 95 years in business in Cincinnati, Ohio. The manufacturer of gears and gearboxes for industrial and marine customers closed its door, leaving workers in question and prompting concern about the company's financial health. Cincinnati Gear's offices in Mariemont, Ohio were closed again on Friday and its gated entrances were padlocked. Cincinnati Gear also operated a plant in Erlanger, Ky., and had a subsidiary in Sonthofen, Germany. Cincinnati Gear's customers included the U.S. government, and the company was awarded several contracts for providing gear components for a new line of tankers started by the U.S. Navy in the mid-1980s.
