COSTA FASCINOSA is 16th of Costa Fleet

Savona to Host Naming Event on May 6th. Costa Cruises, the largest Italian travel group and Europe’s no.1 cruise company, announces big news regarding the new flagship Costa Fascinosa (114,500 gross tonnage and 3,800 total Guests) (www.costacruise.com/fascinosa), the 16th member of the fleet,  currently being fitted out at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard, that together with her sister ship Costa Favolosa, will be the largest cruise ship flying the Italian flag. On the occasion of the Costa Favolosa’s first call at Savona, Costa Crociere S.p.A.

Costa Cruises Installs Funnel on Costa Favolosa

Work is continuing in Fincantieri’s Marghera yard on the construction of the Costa Favolosa, the 15th member of the Costa fleet. Her funnel was recently installed: the same distinctive yellow funnel with the blue “C” that for over 60 years has graced every vessel in the fleet of Costa Cruises. Since the establishment of the brand in the 1940s, some 35 ships have sported the iconic Costa funnel. Like the other 14 members of the fleet currently in service, the Costa Favolosa will fly the Italian flag.

Inauguration of the Costa Deliziosa

Feb. 23 saw the staging in Dubai of the inauguration ceremony for the Costa Deliziosa, the new diamond of the Costa Cruises fleet. The Costa Deliziosa has a 92,600 gross tonnage and a total guest capacity of 2,826. She was built at Fincantieri’s Venice-Marghera yard in Italy with the labor of around 3,000 people, comprising both the shipyard’s own employees and those of about 500 contracted suppliers, most of which are Italian firms, with a total investment worth $609m. Costa Deliziosa Completes Sea Trials

The new ship, The Costa Deliziosa, Costa’s 15th fleet member, built at Fincantieri’s Marghera (Venice) shipyard, was put through her paces in the open sea for the first time, with a series of running tests on the ship’s systems, machinery and engines. She completed the trials successfully. Costa Cruises Receives ABB Award

Costa Cruises has received the ABB Energy Efficiency Award 2009 in recognition of its efforts and progress in improving energy efficiency in its motor and drive systems. The prize was presented as part of “Energy Efficiency Award 2009. Designing and achieving energy efficiency: new conversations”, an event promoted and arranged by Abb Sace, a division of ABB Spa, and hosted by Mario Tozzi, an outstanding Italian science divulger. In addition to Costa Cruises’ project, the initiatives implemented by the other two prize-winning Italian enterprises – Fiat Auto and Fiorucci, leaders in the vehicle manufacturing and food industries, respectively – were also illustrated at the ceremony.

Costa Deliziosa Completes Her Technical Launch

Costa Cruises, Italian tourism group and European cruise company, and Fincantieri celebrated the technical launch of the Costa Deliziosa at the Marghera yards: the first time the ship touched the sea flooding the dry-dock where she is under construction. The Costa Deliziosa, the 15th ship of Costa’s fleet with a total tonnage of 92,700 and a capacity of 2,828 passengers, is scheduled to be delivered at the end of January 2010, after completing the interior fitting out operations. Along with her sister ship, the Costa Luminosa, she will be the fleet’s flagship.

Costa Cruises Fleet Expansion

Work is continuing at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Marghera (Province of Venice) on the construction of the Costa Deliziosa, the 15 member of the fleet belonging to the Italian Company Costa Cruises, which is due to enter service in January 2010. In the last few days, procedures have been carried out for the installation of the diesel engine generator sets, the engines that produce the power needed for propulsion and shipboard hotel services. The operation involves six engines installed in all, four , 12-cylinder 12,000 kW generators plus two , 8-cylinder, 8000 kW engines.

Keel Laid for Costa Ship

Work is continuing at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Marghera (Province of Venice) on the construction of the Costa Deliziosa, the 15 member of the fleet belonging to the Italian Company Costa Cruises, the number one cruise line in Italy and across Europe, which is due to enter service in spring 2010. In the last few days the keel of the new ship has been laid; this includes the first section, 100 meters in length, which was built in the Ancona shipyard and towed to Marghera. The 92,700 gross tonnage Costa Deliziosa, sister ship of the Costa Luminosa, will be able to carry up to 2828 Guests.

Two Costa Ships Launched

The Italian Company Costa Cruises and Fincantieri have together set record:  for the first time ever, two ships have been launched the same day – the Costa Luminosa and Costa Pacifica, respectively the 13th and 14th members of the Costa fleet, which will both enter service next year. The Costa Luminosa, which will be able to accommodate 2,828 Guests and is 92,700 gross tonnage, was launched at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Marghera () in the presence of the Honorable Renato Brunetta, the Italian Minister for Public Administration and Innovation.
