New Bedford Waterfront Festival Set for Sept. 23-24

Join New Bedford, Mass., September 23 & 24, 2006, to celebrate America's largest commercial fishing port, to learn about the men and women who harvest the North Atlantic. Walk the decks of a scalloper, dine on fresh seafood, mend a fishing net and watch a Coast Guard rescue demonstration. Experience the workings of the industry that brings seafood from the ocean to your plate. This year, the role of young people working in the industry, innovations in gear and technology, and the impact of changing regulations will be explored. In addition, the Festival will take a look at fishing families and how skills are passed down from one generation to the next. The Festival also will continue to explore the issues of sustainability and safety, the themes of the first two Festivals.
