Tidal Energy Modelling Tool Launched

The Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) and HR Wallingford launched a tidal energy modeling tool for use by tidal energy developers to identify the most efficient sites for tidal energy converters, tidal arrays or tidal barrage schemes around the U.K. and French coastlines. The computer program, SMARTtide (Simulated Marine Array Resource Testing), incorporates a 2D hydrodynamic model of the U.K.’s continental shelf and the north-west European coastline. The software will be available to the public from May 21 as a fee-for-service via a portal on HR Wallingford’s website.

GL Garrad Hassan: Policy and Grid Shape Wave and Tidal Risk Profile

GL Garrad Hassan has carried out new analysis questioning the perception that the risk profile of wave and tidal projects is primarily driven by technical challenges. The work was launched as part of RenewableUK's Annual marine energy report "Conquering Challenges, Generating Growth" at the industry association's 10th Wave and Tidal conference. Adopting a bird's eye view of the industry, the work demonstrates that much of the risk associated with marine energy projects emerges from the electrical and political systems in which they must operate.

"Tidal Array in a Day" Seminar Set for RenewableUK

The first ever ‘How to Build a Tidal Array in a Day’ seminar will be held on Tuesday 25th October during the RenewableUK 2011 conference and exhibition in Manchester. And industry delegates are being invited to participate in this unique interactive event to contribute towards making Tidal Energy a commercial reality and meet renewable energy targets. The one day seminar, a major initiative by RenewableUK together with five leading Marine Energy stakeholders, will examine the…
