Navy Contracts for Hampton Roads Shipyards

According to a Nov. 10 report from the Daily Press, Newport News-based Davis Boat Works Inc., Portsmouth-based Associated Naval Architects, Norfolk's Lyon Shipyard and Tecnico Corp. in Chesapeake all got a boost from the Navy last week, receiving a combined $127.4m in contracts. 70 Shipyards Awarded ARRA Grants

The Department of Transportation has announced 70 grants totaling $98m in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds that will be used to improve small shipyards throughout the United States. The funds, awarded through the Maritime Administration’s Assistance to Small Shipyards program, will help create and preserve jobs, provide valuable employment training and make much needed improvements to shipyards across the country. The Small Shipyards Grant program provides up to 75 percent in ARRA funds for a project and requires the remainder be matched by the shipyard. A detailed list of the grantees is as follows. •    Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, Inc.,  Philadelphia, PA: $2,312,614, for the first year of training program.

Multiple Award Contract Awarded

Marine Hydraulics International, Norfolk, Va.; Alliance Technical Services, Norfolk, Va.; Davis Boat Works, Newport News, Va.; and Lyon Shipyard, Norfolk, Va., are each being awarded a maximum $47.6m firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity multiple award contract to furnish management, material support services, labor, supplies, and equipment to provide marine boatyard and industrial support, including specific modifications, upgrades, service life extension and repairs to non-commissioned boats, craft, lighterage and service craft, with associated systems that can be transported via roadway by trailer or on its bottom via waterway. Work will be performed in Hampton Roads, Va., and is expected to be completed by December 2007.
