On March 3, the Coast Guard published a notice that Martin Midstream Partners (MMP), a petrochemical transport and storage company, was seeking approval to modify terminal operations in Beaumont, Texas, along the Sabine-Neches Waterway. If approved, MMP would expand its liquefied hazardous gas (LHG) operations, both in volume and products. Instead of just handling ammonia the change would allow shipments of butane, propane, ethane, ethylene and propylene.Critically, MMP’s expansion would increase LHG vessel transit from 24 ships to as many as 350 per year.

In July, 2009 the new RAnger 2000 Class fireboat, City of Portland was delivered to the City of Portland, Maine Fire Department by the builder, A.F. Theriault & Son Ltd., of Meteghan River, Nova Scotia, Canada. The vessel was designed by Robert Allan Ltd. of Vancouver, B.C., who worked closely with the owner's advisor PK Marine of California to define the Owner's various requirements. Derek Noon was the Project Manager at Robert Allan Ltd. for this new vessel. Robert Allan Ltd. announced that a long-planned re-structuring of the company has just been completed. Effective July 2008, Robert G. Allan has been appointed as Executive Chairman of the Board and remains at the helm. A core group of senior employees have become shareholders of Robert Allan Ltd., and will become increasingly involved in the company business. Robert Allan Ltd. The new organization will establish the culture of employee ownership and facilitate the succession from generation to generation. Assuming the position of President will be Ken Harford, P. Eng., who has been a key figure in the company for the past twenty years, most recently as Vice-President of Marine Engineering.
