Team Niinivirta, a Finnish family-run transportation firm, turned 60 this year, but its third-generation managers now don't know if the business will see Christmas, because of Russia's new ban on European food imports. Hapag-Lloyd announced changes in its Executive Board resulting from departure of Michael Behrendt and Ulrich Kranich; Anthony J. Rolf Habben Jansen, who has been a member of the Hapag-Lloyd AG's Executive Board since April 1, has assumed the position of CEO effective July 1. He succeeds Michael Behrendt, who left the Hapag-Lloyd AG's Executive Board as scheduled on June 30, as did COO Ulrich Kranich. The new COO is Anthony J. Firmin who joined the Executive Board today after 19 years at the company. Peter Ganz continues as CFO, a position he has held since April 2009.

DHL Expects Immunity in Price Fixing Investigation

Deutsche Post expects its DHL forwarding business to be granted immunity from prosecution and fines by Singapore antitrust authorities, who are investigating 11 companies for alleged price fixing, the German logistics company said. The Competition Commission of Singapore (CCS) said this month it was investigating 11 freight forwarding companies, including Deutsche Post unit DHL Global Forwarding, for alleged price-fixing of air freight forwarding services. Deutsche Post told Reuters last week that the probe related to pricing and surcharges in the forwarding industry from 2002 to 2007. Forwarders buy cargo space from airlines, shippers and truckers and bundle shipments for customers, such as carmakers, high-tech firms and agriculture firms.

Slovenian shipping firm Intereuropa and port operator Luka Koper canceled a planned merger because the government was demanding the right to veto any management decisions in the new firm. The two companies had planned to merge on July 1. The state owns 51 percent of Luka, while Intereuropa is privately owned. The state's equity in the new company would have been 35.7 percent. "There will be no merger under such conditions where the government would have the right to veto practically every management decision," Radovan Vrabec, Intereuropa's deputy chief executive, said. He said the two companies would be ready to continue merger talks if the government eased its demands. Vrabec said the two firms would not suffer short-term damage due to the failure of the merger.

Danzas Gets Stake In Finnish Logistics Group

Deutsche Post unit Danzas AG has acquired a 49 percent stake in Finnish logistics group Kelpo Keljetus Fi Oy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Finland Post Ltd., Danzas officials said. No financial details were given. Kelpo, launched in 1999, focuses on the national transport of part-load and groupage traffic as well as parcels. It has annual sales of around $47.8 million and employs 860 staff.
