Diesel Engine Market Expands

Finnish engineering group Wärtsilä said its share of the global marine engine market in the 12 months to end-May dipped to 28 percent from 29 percent a year ago, but the market had grown considerably. Wärtsilä referred to the global market share for its Wärtsilä and Sulzer engine brands cited by the industry journal Diesel & Turbine Worldwide and said that the overall market had grown by 38 percent to 23,743 MW. "Wärtsilä and Sulzer have increased their market share in large, over 15 megawatt engines to 41 percent (from 39 percent)," Wärtsilä said in a statement, but said its market share in smaller engine categories had fallen. Wärtsilä, formerly Metra, said that the large engine market had grown by 41 percent in the review period.
