SMM's Offshore Dialogue: The Value Of Wind And Water

At the SMM Hamburg's Offshore Dialogue online conference on February 2, international experts will discuss current trends in the offshore wind farms segment, technical challenges facing tidal and wave energy conversion, and innovative ocean monitoring technologies."About 70% of our planet is covered by water. The Earth's oceans play a key role in shaping the global climate. The more important it is to gather and evaluate as much information as possible about the composition of this ecosystem and how it changes.

Cambridge Pixel Announces Dual Redundant Radar Tracking

Cambridge Pixel has added dual redundancy to its SPx Tracking Server to support high reliability radar tracking. The enhancement will protect against system failure by providing two processing paths for the radar data and allowing automatic switching from one to the other.Support for dual redundant radar tracking is designed for developers of high reliability or remote systems such as in maritime and coastal surveillance applications where multiple radars are located along a coastline…

Dover Selects Cambridge Pixel's Radar Tech

Cambridge Pixel, a developer of radar display, tracking and recording sub-systems, has supplied its radar video trackers and display technology to Marico Marine as part of a major investment by the Port of Dover into safety systems at Europe’s busiest ferry port.Engineers at Marico Marine (Southampton, England) needed a low cost, open, softwarebased radar tracker for integration with its new vessel traffic service (VTS) system in Dover. It was important that the tracker worked…

U.S. Okays Lockheed Aegis Combat System Sale to Japan

The U.S. State Department has approved the likely sale to Japan of two Lockheed Martin Corp Aegis combat systems valued at $1.5 billion, a deal aimed at boosting Japan's defenses against a ballistic missile attack, the U.S. Defense Department said Friday. The company is also demonstrating the associated CxEye display software which provides intuitive command and control for the system. Responding to the market need for a rapidly deployable, all-weather, port and harbor security radar and multi-optioned electro-optical system, Kelvin Hughes has utilized its SharpEye X-band solid state surveillance radar technology to develop the Single Mast Solution.

FPSO IMMS Order for BMT Scientific Services

Page Europa contracts BMT Scientific Marine Services to provide an Integrated Marine Monitoring System (IMMS) for Floating Production Storage & Offloading vessel. The equipment order is for the new Quad 204 FPSO that will replace BP’s Schiehallion FPSO operating west of the Shetland Islands, off the coast of Scotland. The IMMS will provide real-time data on the local meteorological and oceanographic (MetOcean) environment, FPSO motions, and tanker proximity monitoring. The IMMS also includes a comprehensive structural monitoring system. Monitoring the impact of the MetOcean environment on the motion and structure of FPSOs operating in harsh environments is critical to determine an asset’s integrity and safety.

Milford Haven Begins Trial of 3D Surveillance System

Milford Haven Port Authority has begun a trial of advanced C-Vu 3-dimensional VTS display software from GeoVS. The system has been installed to establish whether its clarity of presentation and viewing versatility can enhance situation awareness and ease of interpretation for the port’s vessel traffic controllers. The technology is unique in that it transforms a traditional two dimensional radar display into a three dimensional panorama in which, instead of appearing as featureless radar targets, vessels on the display appear as they really are.
