BW Group, Miros Enter JV Aimed at Fuel-Saving, Emission Reduction

BW Group and Miros are launching Miros Mocean, a joint venture to provide the shipping industry with a new standard in vessel performance optimization. Miros Mocean is aimed at filling the void identified by BW Group and Miros, aiming to provide "unprecedented data accuracy into the operating conditions of a vessel, a missing piece in vessel performance until now," per the press release announcing the JV.“Decarbonizing the shipping industry is the grand challenge of our time," said Remi Eriksen, DNV Group President and CEO.

Svensen retires from DNV GL

Tor E. Svensen, Group Executive Vice President at DNV GL, has decided to retire effective from August 1, 2016. Svensen is a ubiquitous figure in maritime circles, and he will continue to work in the maritime industry and will, amongst other things, take up a role as professor at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, focusing on education and research related to safety at sea. Svensen’s career at DNV GL spanned more than 20years and saw him lead the Maritime Business for more than a decade.

DNV Reports Strong half-year Performance

A focus on safety, service quality and the ability to provide leading-edge technology advice and solutions have contributed to the strong half-year performance for Det Norske Veritas Group AS (DNV). Revenues amounted to NOK 6,665 million and DNV strengthened its global position in all its key areas. While the industries served by DNV experience cyclical markets and are sensitive to global economic developments, DNV’s financial performance remains robust. The DNV Group achieved a strong first half-year performance, with nominal revenue growth of 13% over prior year to NOK 6,665 million. Organic growth was 5%. Maritime and Oil & Gas delivered robust organic growth rates, primarily due to DNV’s classification and verification services.

DNV to Class UASC Ultra-large Container Ships

United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has signed contracts to build some of the world’s largest and greenest container ships, and all will be classed by DNV. Hyundai Heavy Industries, Korea (HHI) is to build the five 18,000 TEU ships. In addition, there will be an option for one more. The contracts between UASC and HHI also include 5 + 6 ships of 14,000 TEU, also to DNV class. “I’m pleased and proud that DNV has been selected as the preferred class for these huge and advanced ships,” says Henrik O. DNV Authorized to Survey Japanese-flagged Vessels

Classification society DNV has been designated as a 'Recognized Organization' by the Japanese government. A year ago Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) was similarly designated as a 'Recognised Organisation' by the Norwegian government and was granted delegated responsibility for statutory surveys and permission to issue statutory certificates. The agreement authorized ClassNK to examine compliance to various treaties of Norwegian-flagged vessels and issue certificates for ships registered under its flag. The ceremony was held at the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Director General of the Maritime Bureau, Mr Masato Mori presented the official certificate of registration to Henrik O. Madsen, CEO of the DNV Group.

DNV Enters Strategic Partnership with Norwegian StormGeo Group

Oslo/Bergen: DNV has, as part of a strategic partnership with StormGeo, acquired the right to purchase 22,6 % of StormGeo’s shares through a mutually convertible capital issue, putting their weight behind meteorology and risk assessment company. Bjørn K. Haugland, Chief Technology and Sustainability Officer of DNV Group will join the Board of Directors of StormGeo. The core focus of StormGeo will remain within the fields of oil exploration, renewable energy as well as shipping, media and aviation. DNV KEMA Energy Sets Up Beijing HQ
