The joint rescue co-ordination centre in Halifax says four people have been taken off a container ship about 60 kilometres south of Portugal Cove South, N.L. According to a Nov. 10 report from CBC News, A major contract has been awarded to start work on Newfoundland and Labrador's Hebron offshore oil project. U.S. construction company Peter Kiewit has won a $70m contract for engineering and site preparation. The work will be done at Bull Arm fabrication site in eastern Newfoundland. Dozens of ships carrying commercial seal hunters have been rescued from crushing ice off the coast of Canada's eastern Newfoundland province, authorities said, but most of the fleet remains adrift or trapped. Canadian Coast Guard icebreakers and helicopters were dispatched a week ago to try to help more than 100 ships carrying hundreds of mariners taking part in Canada's annual seal cull, after shifting winds and two storms stranded them in a massive ice pack offshore.
