Crew Puts Out Cargo Ship Fire

The crew of a Danish cargo ship that caught fire in the English Channel managed to put out the blaze, British coastguards said on Wednesday. The captain of the 2,500-ton Sofie Theresa, with 13 crew on board, radioed for help when a fire broke out in the ship's engine room on Tuesday night, a coastguard spokesman said. No one was injured in the blaze and the ship was not in any immediate danger, he said. The ship, carrying a cargo of wax, was about 18 miles southeast of Beachy Head on England's southern coast when the fire broke out. A rescue helicopter, a tug and coastguard vessels were dispatched to aid the ship, which was sailing to Port Coronne in France from Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
