Raytheon Anschütz Selected as INS Provider for Canada’s OFSV

Thales, a major system integrator in Canada, has chosen Raytheon Anschütz as the supplier of the Integrated Navigation System (INS) for the Canadian Coast Guard’s (CCG) new Offshore Fisheries Science Vessels (OFSV). As part of the OFSV program, three new vessels are being built for the CCG at Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards. The 63-metre vessels are designed to operate in the Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic Oceans. Their mission profile is to conduct fishing and acoustic surveys and collect oceanographic data to monitor changes in the ecosystem.

Greener Anti-Fouling Solutions Attract Shipping Industry Interest

The four-year SEAFRONT project, launched in 2014, has trialled new processes and methods designed to increase scientific understanding of exactly how biofouling occurs and how this problem can best be addressed. This initial work will help in the development of a new generation of anti-biofouling technologies, which will be able to effectively minimise biofouling on marine infrastructure and tools without damaging the ecosystem. ‘Although it is still a little early to report on concrete results, we have already received interest from a number of companies looking for innovative antifouling solutions for their boats, stationary applications, fishing nets and cables,’ says SEAFRONT project coordinator Dr Arie Brouwer from the Stichting Dutch Polymer Institute in the Netherlands.

LTE Deployment Launched in the Gulf of Mexico

Industrial LTE wireless broadband services provider Infrastructure Networks, Inc. (INET) is deploying a pilot LTE system in the Gulf of Mexico. INET said its pilot deployment will be used to demonstrate the capabilities of industrial LTE wireless broadband service and coverage when coupled with 700 MHz spectrum that INET has leased from Verizon Wireless under the LTE in Rural America program. The pilot will be open to certain companies operating in the Gulf of Mexico that have expressed an interest in using the network for testing and planning larger LTE rollouts. Tarig Anani , CEO of Infrastructure Networks, said, "The pilot deployment phase of our LTE rollout will give customers an opportunity to test and preplan their own LTE deployments in lockstep with Infrastructure Networks.

Raytheon Anschütz Unveils New Navigation Radar

On opening day of SMM, the German navigation system manufacturer Raytheon Anschütz officially launched the newly developed NautoScan NX network radar transceivers, the centerpiece of its next generation Synapsis Radar system. The new NautoScan NX transceivers generate raw radar video, which is distributed via Gigabit LAN. Raw video distribution without any analogue losses enables optimized performance with high-fidelity radar data processing through the individual end-user applications on the bridge. Dr.

Integrated Bridge Shaping the Future

While the Integrated Bridge increasingly plays a bigger role in various shipbuilding programs, in many cases the degree of integration can be limited and does not allows a fully functional integration of different navigation systems or further ship systems on the bridge. In tandem there has been an increasing demand for higher level integrated bridge systems, which was reasonably driven by more sophisticated and safety-sensitive vessels such as cruise ships, specialized vessels and few oil tankers.

AtoBviaC Upgrades Distance Tables

A recent upgrade to AtoBviaC’s end user applications for the BP Shipping Marine Distance Tables now means that users can adjust routes and obtain distances to match their own operations. The changes make it possible for the user to produce deviation reports following changes in voyage destinations. AtoBviaCs’ new interfaces for the BP Shipping Marine Distance Tables are ‘Port to Port –Online’ and ‘Port to Port v4’. Both applications allow users to edit routes to meet their particular needs.
