Maritime Experts to Debate Coastal Shipping, IWT Prospects

The opportunities and challenges faced by India’s coastal shipping industry as the country strives for a more optimal modal mix among various modes of transport will top the agenda at the upcoming 3rd edition of Coastal Shipping and IWT Business Forum 2015 which takes place at the Marriott Hotel, Kochi, Kerala on 7 August. The Business Forum comes in the backdrop of a renewed thrust given to the fledgling sector by the Narendra Modi government that came to power last year. Investor-friendly policies are being framed by the shipping ministry led by Nitin Gadkari to revive coastal shipping. The government has taken the bold step to incentivize shippers for using coastal shipping and IWT with the aim of shifting cargo away from road and rail.

ONGC bags Dun & Bradstreet Corporate Excellence Award - 2014

ONGC was honored with the prestigious corporate award – ‘The Dun & Brandstreet Corporate Excellence Award’ for its stellar management and leadership on May 28,2014. ONGC received the award for excellence in the Oil and Gas Production sector. Mr A K Jain, Executive Director, Chief- Offshore Engineering Services, received the award on the behalf of the organization. In all, there were 46 sectors which were recognized for their excellence and these were chosen among the top 500 companies of India, by the primary yardstick of their contribution to India’s GDP. These 500 companies contribute to over 20 percent of the nation’s GDP and are the pillars of economic progress of the country.

Rickmers Container Vessel Breaks All Records

The arrival from China of the Rickmers-owned containership Maersk Elba at the DCT Gdansk terminal on 11 May marked a new era in Baltic shipping. At 13,092TEU and carrying containers 17-wide below deck and 19-wide on the hatchcovers, she is the biggest container vessel by far ever handled by a Baltic port. Whilst in the port, Maersk Elba was visited by many dignatories including Donald Tusk, Poland’s current Prime Minister, the iconic Lech Walesa, the former union leader who successfully ran for the newly re-established office of President of Poland in 1990…
