Maritime's Digital Transformation & Simulation-based Training

Nearly 200 delegates from across the world gathered in Den Haag, The Netherlands in September 2017 to hear about the latest developments in maritime training based on state-of-the-art simulation technology. The three-day Kongsberg UC2017 International Maritime Simulation User Conference brought attendees up to date on developments in digitalization, maritime training, navigation technology, maritime operations simulation and the use of virtual reality in training. Kongsberg to support RAN Bridge Simulator Expansion

The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) is expanding its maritime simulator facility at HMAS Watson, Sydney with the addition of new KONGSBERG ship-handling and navigation simulators and the integration of a new visual display system for its existing bridge simulator. The expansion has been established under the current support contract between KONGSBERG and RAN, in order to provide capacity to meet current and increasing demands for training. Kongsberg Digital, the new KONGSBERG Group division dedicated to delivering next generation software and digital solutions, including maritime simulators, will deliver a new stand-alone Full Mission ship’s bridge simulator, and a Part Mission bridge simulator based on its established and proven K-Sim Polaris simulator platform.

Academic Cooperation Addresses Maritime Ice Operations

A group of industry stakeholders have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for academic exchange and cooperation within the framework of the Kalmar Ice Academy, with a focus on collaboratively helping the offshore and shipping industries to increase operational safety and efficiency while reducing environmental impact, through furthering understanding of maritime operations in ice. Kongsberg Releases GeoSwath Plus Survey Software

Released to selected trial customers earlier this year, the next generation software for Kongsberg Maritime’s GeoSwath Plus shallow water multibeam echo sounder has already been put through its paces on the river Douro in Northern Portugal by one of the country’s survey companies, Lagoa do Ruivo Survey (LRS). The new GS4 all-in-one survey package is a completely reworked version of the GS+ software, providing higher performance and a contemporary look and feel. The software is now available to all GeoSwath Plus users.

Port State Control Software: KR to Supply EMSA

The Korean Register (KR) – an IACS member classification society  - is to supply the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) with a new generation “RuleCheck” system. In 2007, KR won a competitive tender to develop and supply the initial RuleCheck system to EMSA. Based on KR’s highly regarded KR-CON system, RuleCheck is a bespoke product that brings together a complete list of the wide ranging rules and procedures required by port state control officers (PSCOs) in the Paris MOU region. RuleCheck allows PSCOs to produce a checklist of the relevant rules and procedures applicable to specific vessels. Checklists can be created to provide full details for initial as well as for more detailed or expanded inspections.

Intergraph last month introduced SmartMarine 3D, its next-generation software designed to streamline design processes, resulting in lower costs and faster delivery for the shipbuilding and offshore industries. The announcement was made in conjunction with the 13th International Conference on Computer Applications in Shipbuilding , ICCAS 2007, in Portsmouth, U.K. According to the developer, SmartMarine – previously known as IntelliShip – offers improved modeling, detailing and manufacturing capability for offshore devices and ships for unrivaled productivity and user friendliness…
