German Federal Minister Names DFDS Ro/Ro Vessel

The Danish shipping company DFDS and Volkswerft Stralsund held a ceremony for newbuild no. 500: On the fitting-out quay at the shipyard the special-purpose Ro/Ro vessel was named Ark Germania by Prof. Dr. Johanna Wanka, German Federal Minister of Education and Research, in the presence of 150 invited guests. In the weeks following the naming ceremony Volkswerft will continue the work on the “Roll on - Roll off Cargo” special-purpose vessel. It is scheduled to be delivered to DFDS, one of the biggest shipping companies in Northern Europe, in the fourth quarter of 2013.

First of Two DFDS RoRo Vessels Leaves Assembly Hall

The lift gate of ship assembly hall 290 at the Volkswerft shipyard in Stralsund (Germany) opened for the roll-out of the first of two RoRo special ships for the Danish shipping company DFDS. The construction phase “ship hull assembly” of the new vessel with the shipyard job number 500 has now been completed. Pirates Seize German Ship off Kenya

According to a report from Xinhua, a German freight ship was seized on the morning of Oct. 24 by pirates off the coast of Kenya, a spokesman for the German army said. The spokesman said pirates attacked and captured the ship about 1,930 km east of the Kenyan city of Mombasa. The ship belongs to German shipping company Beluga-Reederei, but it was not immediately known how many people were on board, said German media reports. (Source: Xinhua)
