British union Unite on Friday said several Sparrows offshore services workers have voted to strike at dozens of platforms on the UK continental shelf including those of BP and Shell.Around 150 Sparrows workers across more than 20 oil and gas platforms have voted for strike in a dispute over pay, the union said in a press release.This comes after the union last week announced its Sparrows members working on BP’s Andrew, Clair, Clair Ridge, ETAP, Glen Lyon and Mungo installations backed strike action in a separate dispute over pay and conditions.The strike action will hit BP’s platforms from Mar

DNV GL said it has awarded class to BP’s Glen Lyon Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel located west of Shetland. Glen Lyon is a purpose-built FPSO expected to produce 130,000 barrels of oil a day at peak production. The vessel was transferred into class shortly after first oil in May 2017. DNV GL’s Maritime and Oil & Gas business areas have together provided BP with a broad range of technical skills required for the challenging conditions in which the FPSO will operate.

The Glen Lyon floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, BP’s newest North Sea asset, was awarded full-term classification certificates for service in the Schiehallion and Loyal fields, 175 km west of Shetland. Conditions west of Shetland are among the most severe in the UK and Glen Lyon must be capable of operating in extreme weather. Classification means the Glen Lyon FPSO has been verified for operation to the highest levels of safety and performance by LR. Glen Lyon is the world’s largest harsh water FPSO and formed part of BP’s multi-billion-pound Quad 204 project.

BP has started production at an oilfield in the North Sea after a $5.7 billion redevelopment, one of the largest such projects there in recent years that will breathe new life into the ageing offshore basin. The Quad 204 project in the western Shetland region, also knows as Schiehallion, is expected to ramp up production throughout 2017 to reach a level of 130,000 barrels per day, BP said in a statement. The Schiehallion field was first developed in the mid-1990s. The 4.4 billion pound project, which was sanctioned in 2011, will unlock an estimated 450 million barrels of oil and gas, extending its life into 2035. Teekay Offshore Partners L.P. (Teekay Offshore or the Partnership) (NYSE:TOO) announced today that it has been awarded new three-year shuttle tanker contracts of affreightment (CoA), plus extension options, with BP plc, Royal Dutch Shell and OMV Group, to transport the oil produced from the new Glen Lyon FPSO which is part of the Quad204 development located west of Shetland in the North Sea. The CoAs are expected to commence in the first half of 2017 with the requirement for approximately two shuttle tankers. The opening of the offshore season in northern waters has seen specialist oil industry vessels return to Lerwick Harbor during April to support subsea development projects. This month has also brought the first cruise ship of the year to the Shetland port for what promises to be a record-breaking cruise season. Lerwick Port Authority Chief Executive, Sandra Laurenson, commented: “The positive signs are encouraging, after a fall in traffic during the first quarter. We expect the harbor to be busy servicing field developments west of Shetland through to September, albeit in a continuing depressed market. Our best-by-far cruise season yet – significantly up on last year – will run to October, with a high level of bookings already for 2017 and beyond.
