Shell Authorizes Construction Work on Manatee Gas Field

Shell has authorized contractor McDermott International to start engineering work on its Manatee gas field development project off Trinidad and Tobago's east coast, the contractor disclosed on Tuesday.Trinidad is Latin America's largest LNG exporter, but its flagship Atlantic LNG project and its petrochemical plants have been operating at reduced capacity due to a shortage of natural gas.McDermott said it got the green light to proceed on an engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract pending an investment decision.

Wärtsilä Waterjets for High-Speed Ferry

The Wärtsilä WXJ series of modular waterjets have scored its first installation, onboard a  new 100-m wave-piercing catamaran ferry being built for the Government of Trinidad and Tobago at the Incat shipyard in Tasmania, Australia.The WXJ series was officially launched in early March 2019. The series is a further development and upgrading of the Wärtsilä LJX waterjets, with greater efficiency with lower cavitation and underwater noise levels.In addition to the four WXJ waterjets, Wärtsilä will also supply the Wärtsilä ProTouch operational control system.

Trinidad Signs Pact with BP, Shell

The government of Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) has entered into an agreement with energy giantsShell and BP over gas pricing and LNG activities.According to local media reports, the agree­ment in­volves new pric­ing arrange­ments, the ex­ten­sion of the At­lantic LNG Train 1 by a fur­ther five years, and the abil­i­ty of the Na­tion­al Gas Com­pa­ny (NGC) to ex­port liqui­fied nat­ur­al gas (LNG) on be­half of T&T.The government sources quoted min­is­ter in the Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter Stu­art Young said the agree­ment will lead to “significant” financial benefits to the twin island republic.The gas pricing formula agreed to by Shell…

Maritime Mentorship Programme 2009

On July 28 2009, the T&T Shipbuilding and Repair (S&R) Cluster undertook two presentations to some 50 mentees which formed part of their contribution to this annual Maritime Programme. Organized by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago (GoTT) as an initiative to promote the Shipbuilding and Repair sector to young persons between the age group 15–17 years, the long term aim is to help diversify the country from the energy sector. Wilfred de Gannes – S&R Deputy Leader, also gave a brief Introductory Address on the Cluster’s work to the Mentees.

VT Group to Build Offshore Patrol Vessels

Support services and shipbuilding company VT Group has been contracted to build and manage three (3) Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV), including associated training and long-term maintenance support, that are to be supplied to Trinidad. The program, which was part of a proposal from the Government of the United Kingdom and VT Group to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, is valued at more than $201m. Contracts were signed in Trinidad on Thursday April 5. Design work will start immediately on the 295 ft. ships, which will be used for a range of Economic Exclusion Zone (EEZ) management, special operations and maritime law enforcement tasks. They will be operated by the Trinidad and Tobago Coastguard and the first ship will be handed over in 2009.
