SEACOR Marine announced it will convert four of its platform supply vessels (PSV) to battery hybrid power in a move to enhance efficiency and slash emissions.The Houston-headquartered marine transportation firm said on Thursday it has ordered containerized energy storage systems (ESS) from Norway's Kongsberg Maritime for install aboard SEACOR Ohio, SEACOR Alps, SEACOR Andes and SEACOR Atlas.The four 278.4-foot-long PSVs are all of Kongsberg Maritime's UT771 CDL design and were built in China from 2018 to 2020.

Baltic Workboats announced it recently signed a contract to design and construct a new multipurpose vessel for scheduled delivery to the Estonian State Fleet in 2026.The new workboat will be deployed for regular buoy tender works, maintenance of waterways, scientific research, pollution monitoring and response and search and rescue missions in Estonian waters.Notably, the vessel will be Estonia’s first 100% alternatively fueled workboat that will use sustainable biomethane as the main fuel.

Korean Register (KR) granted an Approval in Principle (AiP) for a 200,000cbms ultra-large ammonia carrier fueled by ammonia created by Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI). The design was unveiled at Gastech 2023 in Singapore.The carrier is a green ship designed to carry large quantities of ammonia, using the cargo as fuel, and has zero carbon dioxide emissions during operation.Ammonia, known for its distinctive odor that aids quick leak detection is also relatively lightweight, allowing effective control of leaking gases. Norwegian companies OSM Thome and Pherousa Green Shipping (PGS) have entered into a Letter of Intent outlining their collaboration on six 63,000dwt Ultramax bulk carriers to be ordered by PGS.The collaboration involves Phases I, II, and III, encompassing Drawing Approval, Project Development, and Site Supervision.
