The end of the 2019 saw some unprecedented funding measure pass through Congress and signed into law by President Trump. The Gulf and East Coast have continued to receive significant funding to help deepen and widen navigational channels and gateways. One of the projects passed into law included the Gulf Coast Regional Demonstration Project. Some of the ports receiving funding and underway include Mobile, Baltimore, Houston, Port Everglades and Norfolk. All these projects funded by Congress draw a direct correlation to the expanded Panama Canal.

Port of Houston Commission to negotiate a contract for the purchase of 4 new electric cranes for Barbours Cut Container Terminal. Demonstrating continued investment in infrastructure improvements to better serve customers, the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority has selected Konecranes Finland Corporation to supply four dockside electric container cranes for Wharf No. 1 at Barbours Cut Container Terminal. Barbours Cut, the Port Authority's first container terminal. Opened in 1977, the Barbours Cut Container Terminal has grown to be one of the premier container-handling facilities in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. Houston City Council appoints Dean Corgey, V-P of the Seafarers International Union Gulf Coast Region, to serve as member of the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority. Corgey's appointment fills the seat previously held by Janiece Longoria, who was named Port Commission Chairman January 8 during a joint session of the Houston City Council and Harris County Commissioners Court.
