Panama Canal to Become Carbon Neutral by 2030

The Panama Canal has set out to decarbonize its operations, with a target to become carbon neutral by 2030.“We at the Panama Canal are committed to sustainability, and therefore are laying the foundation, creating the tools and identifying the changes needed to achieve efficiencies that will allow us as an organization to reach carbon neutrality. This is a fundamental strategy for the waterway's long-term operation and sustainability,” said Panama Canal Administrator Ricaurte Vásquez Morales.

New Cutter Suction Dredger Launched by IHC Merwede

IHC Merwede has launched the first IHC Beaver® 65 DDSP at the company's Sliedrecht shipyard in The Netherlands. The successor to the highly successful IHC Beaver® 6518 is part of the renowned IHC Beaver® series of standard cutter suction dredgers. The new vessel has been designed with a Directly Driven Submerged Pump (DDSP) mounted on the cutter ladder. This feature means that it is possible to dredge at high-mixture densities, as there will be no limitation on the vacuum – even at larger dredging depths.
