The Coast Guard Research and Development Center (RDC), under the command of Capt. Michael Chien, has won the Commodore Viggo C. Bertelsen Jr. and Vice Admiral John P. Currier Auxiliary Integration Award in the category of Applied Innovation. The award was presented by Commander Steven Koch, who leads the Auxiliary (AUX) in New England, at a command all hands. Maersk Line's Sustainability Commitment Recognized

Maersk Line, Limited (MLL) wins two awards for its continued efforts to improve the environmental sustainability of its operations. MLL received awards from the Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA) and the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA). Thirty-nine vessels operated by MLL were awarded Certificates of Environmental Achievement from CSA at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, DC. Change of Watch for Coast Guard Vice Commandant

Vice Adm. Sally Brice-O’Hara was relieved by Vice Adm. John P. Currier as vice commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard during a military change of watch ceremony held here Friday morning at Fort Lesley J. McNair. Brice-O’Hara retired from the Coast Guard after more than 37 years of service as part of the same ceremony. Brice-O’Hara assumed the duties of the 27th vice commandant May 24, 2010. As second in command she was responsible for executing the commandant’s strategic intent, managing internal organizational governance and serving as the component acquisition executive. Identification System Gets Green Light from DHS

The U.S. Coast Guard announced today it received formal approval from the Department of Homeland Security to issue solicitations and award contracts to establish initial operating capability for the two-way, maritime data communications system known as the nationwide automatic identification system. "The nationwide automatic identification system will greatly aid the essential process of identifying, tracking, and communicating with vessels approaching our maritime borders and is a centerpiece in establishing effective maritime domain awareness," said Rear Adm. John P. Currier, the Coast Guard's assistant commandant for acquisitions.
