Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K LINE) and the Nippon Foundation have demonstrated autonomous navigation on a roro for a round-trip route of approximately 1,000 miles (1,600km) between Hitachi Port and Kushiro Port.The 11,413gt Hokuren Maru No. 2 sails the route routinely in service for operator Kawasaki Kinkai Kisen. The car carrier burning off the Dutch coast since Tuesday night is carrying nearly 500 electric vehicles, ship charter company "K" Line said on Friday, significantly more than the 25 initially reported by the coastguard.The fire on the Panamanian-registered Fremantle Highway, which was carrying new cars, resulted in the death of an Indian crew member and injury of seven others who jumped overboard to escape the flames.There were 3,783 vehicles on board, including 498 battery electric vehicles, a Tokyo-based spokesperson for K Line (Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha), which had chartered the vessel, said.

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding has launched a test ship for the transport of liquefied carbon dioxide (LCO2).The 236-foot ship has a storage capacity of 1,450 m³ and will be used with demonstration carbon capture and storage projects that are underway for Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).The Engineering Advancement Association of Japan (ENAA), one of the consignees for the NEDO demonstration projects, will charter the ship from Sanyu Kisen, and install and operate the low temperature, high pressure storage system.

(J-POWER) decided to install the “Seawing”, an automated kite system using wind power, on Corona Citrus, an 88,000 DWT-type special coal carrier for J-POWER.Completed on September 11, 2019, the 230 x 38m Corona Citrus is equipped with a ballast water treatment system and a SOx scrubber, too. The new “Seawing” is expected to reduce CO2 emissions from the ship by at least 20%.
