East Coast Repair has been awarded a contract for an 85-calendar day shipyard availability for the mid-term availability of the Military Sealift Command’s (MSC) fleet oiler USNS Leroy Grumman (T-AO 195), the U.S. Department of Defense announced. Work will be performed in the company's Portsmouth, Va. shipyard, and will begin January 5, 2022, and is expected to be completed by March 31, 2022.This $8,719,597 firm-fixed-price contract includes a base period and four options which, if exercised would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $9,006,443.

Within a week's time, Detyens Shipyards has secured two Military Sealift Command (MSC) ship repair contracts worth more than $29 million combined. 'Joint Warrior', a two-week exercise, designed and led by the Joint Tactical Exercise Planning Staff (JTEPS) in the UK has begun. 'Joint Warrior'  is the largest military exercise in Europe and began off the coast of Scotland, Oct. 1, 2012. "The exercise is designed to test the skill, knowledge and equipment of the participants in a range of different environments," said Capt. Paul Titterton, director of JTEPS. Three United States Navy ships are taking part in the exercise, led by Commander Destroyer Squadron (COMDESRON) 26.

Continuing its tradition of supporting academic excellence, Crowley Maritime Corp. recently presented Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships to two midshipmen from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY. Mark Miller, director of corporate communications for Crowley, presented scholarships to Jeffrey Jaskot and Audrey Meyers. Midshipman Jaskot, of Orlando, Fla., is a senior majoring in Logistics and Intermodal Transportation and plans to attain a U.S. Coast Guard Unlimited 3rd Mates License. He also is in the process of achieving a Tankerman PIC Rating as well as Crude Oil Wash and Inert Gas Endorsements. Upon graduation, Jaskot plans to use his license and go to sea. He interned at Crowley in the summer of 2003.

BAE Systems has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command to overhaul and drydock the USNS Leroy Grumman (T-AO 195). The cumulative value of the contract could reach nearly $8 million if all options are exercised. The work will take place at BAE Systems Ship Repair in Norfolk and is expected to be completed by March 2007. Grumman provides underway replenishment of fuel to U.S. Navy combat ships at sea, enabling them to remain deployed for extended periods of time.
