Wärtsilä Propulsion for First UK Dual-fuel Ships

he first ever UK domestic dual-fuelled new build vessels will feature fully integrated Wärtsilä propulsion machinery packages. Wärtsilä will also supply extended engineering and site support services. The two ships, both 102 metre long ro-ro passenger ferries, are being built for Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) based in Port Glasgow, Scotland. The contracts with Wärtsilä were recorded in December 2015. Besides being the first dual-fuel vessels for CMAL, they are also the first ever dual-fuel ships to be built in the UK. These will be built by Ferguson Marine Engineering Ltd. The yard is located on the River Clyde in Glasgow. "This project highlights the fact that high-end, technologically advanced commercial shipbuilding is again present in Scotland.

Rapp Marine Equips Pelagic Fleet Trawlers

Rapp Marine has received two new orders for the supply of complete electrical deck machinery packages for the two pelagic trawlers, Rockall and Themis, announced Morten Stenkjær, VP Sales Fisheries Rapp Marine. Rapp Marine signed the contract in March 2016 with the shipbuilder Karstensens Skibsværft in Skagen, Denmark, for these two newbuildings. Astrid Fiskeri AS in Skagen owns Rockall, while Themis is owned by Themis Fiskeri AS in Thyborøn. Rockall will be to fully outfitted with deck machinery suitable for twin trawl fisheries.

MacGregor Wins Orders for Pusnes Deck Machinery

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, announced it has secured orders for a series of Pusnes deck machinery packages for several shipowners. The Pusnes equipment has been specified for different ship types that are going to be built by the Hyundai Group and Sungdong Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, in South Korea. MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has secured orders for a series of Pusnes deck machinery packages for various shipowners. MacGregor to Supply Deck Machinery to 6 OSVs

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, says it has won a series of deck equipment orders from Chinese shipbuilder Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co Ltd. The winches and deck machinery packages will be fitted to six vessels under construction at the yard. Two 100m 300-person accommodation/work barges will each feature eight-point mooring systems, with an 85-tonne line pull/150-tonne brake holding capacity, tugger winches and capstans. These vessels are scheduled to be delivered from the second quarter of 2015 to the third quarter of 2016. The remaining four 99.8m accommodation/installation maintenance and repair vessels will each feature a range of deck machinery with delivery planned from the third quarter of 2015 through to the second quarter of 2016.

Rapp Hydema Hauls in the Research Vessel Market

Rapp Hydema has been supplying deck machinery to research vessels since 1977, but this global market recently became especially significant for the group. In 2002, in what would be a watershed project, Rapp Hydema was chosen to outfit the NOAA Fishery Survey Vessel (FSV) Oscar Dyson class of vessels. The first four ships in the class were being constructed at VT Halter Marine Shipyard. “That NOAA research vessel contract provided us with excellent exposure,” said Johann Sigurjonsson, President of Rapp Hydema U.S.

Rapp Hydema Winches for USGS Research Vessels

Great Lakes Shipyard this month awarded Rapp Hydema NW the deck machinery packages for two U.S. Geological Survey research vessels now under construction. Rapp’s award includes a pair of trawl winches, a centerline winch, side-sampling winches port and starboard, and a dual net reel, for each vessel. Rapp will be providing its state-of-the art PTS Pentagon Canbus system for winch control and monitoring, as well a Rapp Syd gillnet lifter for each boat. The centerline and side-sampling winches will be slip-ring capable.

MAN B&W To Re-Engine Ferry Banasa

MAN B&W Diesel A/S has been awarded the contract to carry out a large re-engining job on the car and passenger ferry Banasa. This is the third job of this scale to be carried out by the MAN B&W engine specialists at the company's own Service Center Denmark in Frederikshavn. Earlier similar jobs included the Princess of Scandinavia (finished March 2000) and the re-engining/overhaul of four Olympic Countess main engines (finished spring 2001). The common de-nominator is ferries or passenger vessels in the 20+ years age - where hull and accommodation has sufficient potential and where the machinery packages have to be brought up-to-date. The ferry, owned and operated by Comarit (Compagnie Maritime Marocko-Norvegienne S.A.

Deck Machinery

Research Winches for R/V Maria S. Seven special winches were supplied by Hatlapa in December 2003 after being tested and demonstrated in the factory. These winches are intended for the new research vessel Maria S. Merian, which will support the vessel Polarstern during operations in the Arctic. Hatlapa has escorted this project for five years, during which time the design of the winches was formed in close cooperation with the order principal BAW (Bundesanstalt für Wasserbau) and the shipyard Krögerwerft in Rendsburg. One specialty is the combination of friction and storage winch for handling the very long and relatively thin measuring cables. The advantage is that the sensitive and expensive research ropes can be spooled on the storage winch free from load.
