Plug-and-play Ballast Treatment Deck Modules

Marine Systems Inc. (MSI) delivered a pair of modular ballast water treatment units, specially designed for tank barge and ship operations. The Ballast Treatment System Deck Module – or “Ballast Module” – combines expertise from MSI, Glosten and Alfa Laval. Responding to requests from vessel operators, MSI turned to Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering consultancy, Glosten, to develop the design. Alfa Laval provided PureBallast 3.1 treatment systems, Filtrex high efficiency filters, and expertise from hundreds of installations. The resulting modules, built at the Foss Seattle Shipyard complete with lighting, ventilation and integrated controls, were shipped ready for plug-and-play.

EMS Hires National Sales Manager

Electronic Marine Systems Inc. (EMS) has appointed Ron Monnell as National Sales Manager.   Monnell joins EMS with more than 35 years of marine sales experience in the commercial and military sectors of the U.S. marine industry.   Based in Florida, Monnell will be responsible for developing new opportunities for the EMS automation line of products in the U.S.

SUNY Maritime Admiral’s Scholarship Dinner

Corbett & Holt and Gallagher Marine Announce Merger

Corbett & Holt, LLC and Gallagher Marine Systems, Inc. announced that they have reached agreement on a merger that will combine the two companies. This move is designed to join two of the premier providers of Qualified Individual and spill management team services and compliance support for the U.S. Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA 90) and other U.S. state and national oil and hazardous substance pollution laws and regulations. The companies will continue to operate as Gallagher Marine Systems and Corbett & Holt under a joint management team. The joint management team will be made up of Biff Holt as managing director, Jack Gallagher as Director of response operations, and Charles Corbett as director of technical services.

Kirby Corp. to Buy Saunders Engine and Equipment Co.

Marine Systems Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Kirby Corp., said it had agreed to purchase Saunders Engine and Equipment Co. Inc. for about $13.2m in cash. Saunders, based in Mobile, Ala., is a privately held high-speed diesel engine services provider. The deal is expected to close by July 20. Houston-based Kirby said it will finance the acquisition using an existing revolving credit facility.

Electronic Marine Systems Acquires SMC Assets

Electronic Marine Systems, Inc. (EMS) of Rahway, N.J. has acquired the assets of Sarasota Measurements and Controls (SMC) of Sarasota, Fla., a leading manufacturer of land-based liquid storage tank gauging systems. SMC has more than 6,000 tanks installed worldwide. The new division of EMS will be known as EMS.SARASOTA. Rolland Piccone, president of SMC, will assume the position of general manager and will be responsible for all land-based application engineering and sales.

Offshore: New Products at OTC

Sensotec's Model 424 & 425 Hammer Union pressure transmitter are rugged sensors designed specifically for use with 1502 and 2202, two-in. wing unions in the demanding environment of drilling installations. Typical high-pressure applications include mud logging, cementing, fracturing, acidizing, nitrogen pumping, and other upstream well servicing applications. The Model 425 is available in ranges from 0-5,000 to 15,000 psi. The Model 424 is available in ranges from 0-15,000 to 20,000 psi. Both the 425 and 424 deliver accuracy of 0.2% (BFSL). Standard output is 4-20 mA (2-wire) with a supply voltage of 9-28 VDC. Each unit is RFI / EMI protected. Operating temperature is from -45 to 200 degrees F. The "ESX" Power sections provide high torque at very low speed for mud motors.
