Maritime Communications: Comments Sought

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) proposes to amend its rules to allow VHF public coast (VPC) and automated maritime telecommunications system (AMTS) station licensees to provide private mobile radio service to units on land. Comments on the proposal should be submitted by October 12, 2004. 69 Fed. Reg. 48440 (HK Law).

FCC to Auctin 10 AMTS Licenses

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued a Notice stating that it will auction ten automated maritime telecommunications system (AMTS) licenses commencing August 3, 2005. Comments on reserve prices or minimum opening bids and other procedures should be submitted by February 18. 70 Fed. Reg. 7270 (HK LAW).

Automated Maritime Telecommunications System – licensing auction

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued a Notice stating that it will conduct an auction of licenses of the Automated Maritime Telecommunications System (AMTS) on August 3. The AMTS is an alternative to the VHF public coast service and provides a unique distress, operational, and personal communication system for vessels at sea and on inland waterways. 70 Fed.
