A small number of people were injured on Sunday during a "weather-related incident" involving P&O Cruises Britannia ship moored in the Spanish island of Mallorca, a spokesperson for the company said.Port authorities in the capital Palma said the ship collided with a petrol tanker because of high winds. The U.S. Coast Guard has medevaced a 57-year-old man from the cruise ship MSC Divina approximately 110 miles west of Great Inagua, Bahamas, Monday. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard 7th District Command Center received a request for a medevac from the cruise liner for a passengers reportedly suffering from stroke-like symptoms, and directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to assist. The helicopter crew arrived on scene, hoisted the patient and is flying him to Cheshire Hall Medical Centre in Providenciales…

A survey of officers and crew by a leading tanker owner suggests catering and galley staff throughout the industry may be in urgent need of training, according to Seagull. The computer-based training provider draws attention to a thorough survey of all ranks undertaken by Finaval S.p.A, a tanker owner, in cooperation with CIRM (International Radio-Medical Centre Rome) and UNICAM (Centre for Clinical Research, Telemedicine and Telepharmacy, Camerino University) focusing on knowledge and understanding of food hygiene and food handling best practice.

A cruise ship passenger has died and another was airlifted to hospital after the 22,000-tonne cruise ship 'Marco Polo'  was hit by a freak wave in the English Channel during the recent storm. The cruise ship operators, Cruise & Maritime Voyages (CMV) confirm that after a freak wave hit their cruise ship m/s Marco Polo in the English Channel during heavy weather, the ship is now in home port, London Tilbury. They add that they regret to advise that one elderly passenger has died…

Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport Leo Varadkar officially launched the Coast Guard’s new state-of-the-art S92 search and rescue helicopter for the Dublin region in Weston Airport. This is the fourth Sikorsky S92 helicopter base to come into operation for the Coast Guard and means all four Coast Guard bases now have upgraded helicopters. The new S92 helicopters replace the Sikorsky S61 which was in use until recently at the Coast Guard bases in Dublin, Shannon, Sligo and Waterford.

Silversea Cruises expedition ship 'Silver Explorer' damaged and next cruise cancelled for repairs. The expedition ship Silver Explorer encountered heavy weather and sustained damage while on a cruise from the Argentinean port of Ushuaia to South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula. The owners report that all 133 guests and 113 crew members were safe; no guests were injured but four crew members received minor injuries and were treated in the ship's Medical Centre, also that the vessel had full power and control as it returned to Ushuaia. The next voyage has been cancelled.

As part of a three day Royal tour of Gibraltar in June, HRH The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex set time aside to inspect work under way at Gibdock, the territory’s strategically located repair and conversion yard. Accompanied by Gibraltar Governor, Sir Adrian Johns and Gibraltar Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, the Earl was welcomed by the Minister for the Port, Neil Costa, Gibdock Chief Executive, Joe Corvelli, Commercial Director, Richard Beards, Finance Director, Paul Singleton, and Production Director, John Taylor.

Dubai has joined hands with the Occupational Health and Environmental Respiratory Department of Imperial College London to conduct research which will focus on the respiratory health of Drydocks employees. In July, 2009 the new RAnger 2000 Class fireboat, City of Portland was delivered to the City of Portland, Maine Fire Department by the builder, A.F. Theriault & Son Ltd., of Meteghan River, Nova Scotia, Canada. The vessel was designed by Robert Allan Ltd. of Vancouver, B.C., who worked closely with the owner's advisor PK Marine of California to define the Owner's various requirements. Derek Noon was the Project Manager at Robert Allan Ltd. for this new vessel. VitalLink has been installed on board FPSO Ocean Producer providing the crew with access to 24 hour a day medical advice from International SOS, the world’s largest medical and security assistance company. VitalLink 1200, packaged in a ruggedised water resistant portable backpack, has been specifically designed for the non-medically trained operator. Should a worker on the Ocean Producer become sick or injured, the unit is activated, and voice prompts and on-screen instructions guide the operator through the attachment of simply designed medical leads to the patient.
