Wärtsilä, Carnival Ink Waste Treatment Systems Deal

Finnish marine equipment manufacturer Wärtsilä said it signed a framework agreement with Carnival Corporation covering the supply and installation of Wärtsilä’s waste water and dry waste treatment systems for up to 32 vessels across many of global cruise ship operator’s brands. Rederi AB Gotland Looks to the Future

Nutrient removal in membrane bioreactor wastewater treatment systems is the future. Rederi AB Gotland acts now for both savings and the sake of our seas. Rederi AB Gotland, Sweden’s oldest passenger shipping company, has chosen Evac products to equip its new LNG-fueled passenger and cargo vessels which will ply Baltic Sea routes. Each vessel will carry approximately 1,700 passengers and crew. And since the Baltic Sea is classified as a Special Area (SA), the new vessels will also carry the most state of the art nutrient removal system.

Wärtsilä to Upgrade Residential Ship "The World"

"The World", the largest, private, residential ship on the seas, will be retrofitted with a Wärtsilä Advanced Wastewater treatment system and a Wärtsilä Nacos Platinum system for navigation and external communication purposes. The Wärtsilä Advanced Wastewater solution will replace an existing system and keep the vessel in full compliance with the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) requirements concerning the prevention of pollution from ships. The ship is owned by its residents and is managed by ROW Management Ltd based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA. The contract with Wärtsilä was signed in November. The equipment is scheduled for delivery in April, 2016.

ACO Marine Unveils New PE Separators

Wastewater management specialist ACO Marine has introduced a new composite grease separator as part of its Lipator and Lipatomat product range. Manufactured from high-density polyethylene (PE) composite, ACO Marine’s new PE-Lipator (manual) and PE-Lipatomat (automatic) separators have been designed to meet market demand for more cost-effective, lighter units capable of delivering the same performance benefits as the stainless steel models, the company said. Evac's Total Waste Management for Atlantic Mercy

The global cleantech company Evac has been chosen to supply its total waste management system to the world’s largest civilian hospital ship, the Atlantic Mercy. Owned and operated by the nonprofit Mercy Ships, the ship will provide medical care in the poorest parts of Africa. The vessel is now being constructed by the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation at the Tianjin Xingang Shipyard. The contract to supply the vessel was signed in May 2015 for delivery in 2016. Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 will be fitted with a Wärtsilä advanced wastewater treatment system, enabling the cruise ship to comply with the IMO’s requirements concerning the prevention of pollution from ships. Hamworthy to Supply Princess Cruises

Two vessels to be built by Fincantieri for Princess Cruises will become the latest luxury cruise ships to feature Hamworthy’s Membrane BioReactor (MBR), the technology designed to meet wastewater discharge requirements in even the most sensitive of seas. Each 3,600 passenger capacity, 141,000gt ‘Ruby Evolution’ class ship will be fitted with two Hamworthy MBR24 systems, to enable responsible operations anywhere in the world. With the delivery date for the first vessel due in spring 2013, the first two MBRs will be delivered in August 2011, for installation/commissioning by December 2012.

Hamworthy to Supply MBR for Radisson Seven Seas

Hamworthy KSE has received its first order in the commercial sector for its new MBR (membrane bioreactor) system for black/grey water treatment. Radisson Seven Seas is the first cruise company to confirm an order for the advanced sewage treatment system. Under a contract worth $1million, the MBR system was installed aboard the 28 500 tonne Seven Seas Navigator, which had been converted to the new sewage treatment technology while in drydock at the Mariotti yard in Italy. The configuration for the Seven Seas Navigator is designed for a ship’s complement of 845, each of its two MBR systems comprising ten membrane modules and ultimately sharing the load equally.

Carderock Tests Novel Ship Wastewater Treatment System

Engineers in the Wastewater Management Branch at the Naval Surface Warfare Center's Carderock Division (NSWCCD) in Bethesda, Maryland assess, test and evaluate technologies for treating ship-generated graywater. Graywater consists of wastewater from showers, sinks, galley, scullery and laundry sources. The most recent accomplishment includes the design, fabrication, installation and initial testing of a shipboard graywater treatment system sponsored by NAVSEA 05R24. The equipment treats graywater generated by a crew of 75. It was installed on USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD 6) by an alteration installation team from the Environmental Improvement Section (Code 9153) at NSWCCD Ship Systems Engineering Station in Philadelphia…
