Rolls-Royce Sets Up MTU Middle East Subsidiary

Rolls-Royce has set up MTU Middle East as a new regional sales and service subsidiary with head office in Dubai to support distributors and business partners of MTU, MTU Onsite Energy and Bergen Engines in 21 countries in the Middle East and North Africa. In this region, high-speed and medium-speed large diesel and gas engines, drive systems and on-site power generation systems are mainly deployed in electrical power generation, the oil and gas industry, and to drive trains and agricultural machinery. MTU Shows SMM it's Ready for IMO Tier lll

The Rolls-Royce brand MTU is showing its concepts at the current SMM, Hamburg, in response to the IMO Tier III emission standard which is due to come into force in 2016. “MTU is well-prepared for IMO Tier III, be it with SCR exhaust aftertreatment systems for diesel engines or with gas engines,” explains Dr. Michael Haidinger, Chief Sales Officer at Rolls-Royce Power Systems. In an animated presentation, MTU is demonstrating the latest high-speed Series 4000 gas engine based on its trusted 4000 M63 diesel engine which is widely used in working vessels. The first field-trial engine is scheduled to go into service in 2016 in a new environmentally-compatible tugboat. MTU's natural-gas marine engine is due to be launched on the market in 2018.

MTU, Fairplay to Test Diesel Genset with SCR for IMO Tier III

The Rolls-Royce brand MTU and Fairplay Towage are to test an MTU diesel genset with SCR exhaust aftertreatment in a harbor tug in order to verify compliance with IMO Tier III emission requirements that come into force as of 2016. The nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions will be cut by 90% compared with the IMO Tier I regulation that was introduced in 2000. “This is one of the world’s first tests of high-speed diesel engines equipped with an SCR system designed to meet the NOx levels required by IMO Tier III,” said Dr. Michael Haidinger, Chief Sales Officer of Rolls-Royce Power Systems.

MTU's New Generation Series 2000 Yacht Engine

MTU will be presenting its propulsion and system solutions at the International yachting “Festival de la Plaisance” in Cannes from September 9-14, 2014. Visitors will be able to discover the extensive portfolio of the Rolls-Royce Power Systems subsidiary at Stand JAS-025. An advanced Series 2000 M96 yacht engine which meets US emission stage EPA Tier 3 (for leisure craft) will be on view for the first time. “The latest generation of Series 2000 engines stands out with optimized acceleration and low fuel consumption. The engine meets EPA Tier 3 emission limits using in-engine technology only and without having to resort to exhaust aftertreatment”, explains Dr. Michael Haidinger, Chief Sales Officer at Rolls-Royce Power Systems.

MTU Engines First Choice for Emirates Boatbuilder

MTU distributor Al Masaood and Arabian yacht builder Gulf Craft sign preferred partner agreement. Under the agreement, the Arabian shipyard Gulf Craft will soon offer MTU Series 2000 and 4000 engines in its Majesty Yachts as its primary engine option. The agreement was signed by Gulf Craft and Al Masaood, a Tognum Group distributor for MTU engines in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, at this year’s Dubai International Boat Show. The contract will extend through 2014 and provides more than 50 engines ranging from 8, 10, 12 and 16-cylinder units of Series 2000 to 12-cylinder engines of Series 4000. “This preferred partner agreement will allow us to strengthen our long-standing partnership and significantly expand our market share,” said Tognum Chief Sales Officer Dr. Michael Haidinger.

Tognum Makes Large Investments

2012-2014: Investment of more than one billion euros in plant expansion and R&D; Publication of Annual Report 2012 announced. The specialist for propulsion and power solutions Tognum intends to invest more than one billion euros by the end of 2014. This amount exceeds the volume that Tognum specified in a cornerstone paper together with Daimler AG and Rolls-Royce plc two years ago. Approximately €600 million of the total investment will flow into each of research and development and long-term capital expenditure.

MTU to Supply 16 Gensets for Rolls Royce Design OSV's

Tognum to supply 16 marine gensets with MTU Series 4000 engines as part of Rolls-Royce UT-OSV design for 4 new CDL OSV's. Tognum will deliver 16 MTU marine generator sets with 12V 4000 M23S Ironmen engines for four Rolls-Royce UT 771 CDL offshore supply vessels (OSV) to be built at COSCO (Zhoushan) Shipyard Co. Ltd. in China. The gensets are part of a £26 million Rolls-Royce order to provide an integrated design, power and propulsion and equipment package. COSCO will build the OSVs for a Hong Kong owner. The four vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2014.

Tognum Appoints New Board Member

Effective 1 July 2012, Dr. Michael Haidinger (51) is to be the new member of the Executive Board of Tognum AG responsible for sales. This was decided by the company’s Supervisory Board at its meeting yesterday evening unanimously. He succeeds Peter Kneipp (52), who left the Executive Board at the end of February 2012 by mutual agreement to pursue a new professional challenge. Dr. Haidinger is currently President of Rolls-Royce Deutschland and a member of the Supervisory Board of Tognum AG.

Rolls-Royce Opens New Service Center in Hamburg

Rolls-Royce opened a new Marine Service Center in the Port of Hamburg, Germany. The investment marks the latest stage in the development of a global marine service network. This year, with Hamburg, four new or expanded Marine Service Centres have been opened in major world ports. The Group now has dedicated marine sales and overhaul facilities in 35 countries, providing round-the-clock support to customers worldwide. This new facility further increases the Rolls-Royce footprint in Germany, a strategic market, where the Group already employs around 3,200 people at two aerospace production facilities and a state-of-the-art mechanical testing facility.
