Abu Dhabi Ship Building Expands Portfolio
Abu Dhabi Ship Building PJSC (ADSB), a leading provider of construction, repair and refit services for naval, military and commercial vessels, has expanded its customer portfolio to now include chemical tankers. ADSB welcomed its first chemical tanker at the new drydock facility at Mina Zayed, which was commissioned in July of this year. Mid Osprey, a 140m chemical tanker, is undergoing major repairs including the refurbishment of the ship’s accommodation. ADSB has also installed a high powered robotic washer and hydro blasting unit, a more environmentally friendly and efficient robotics system for hull treatment. It is the first time a shipyard in Abu Dhabi has utilized a robotic hull treatment machine.
Abu Dhabi Ship Building Commissions First Floating Dock

Abu Dhabi Port 2015 Box Traffic Up Sharply
Container volumes rose by 32 percent at Abu Dhabi's Khalifa Port in 2015 buoyed by industrial and infrastructure development in the emirate, operator Abu Dhabi Ports said on Wednesday. Built on a man-made island, Khalifa Port handled 1.50 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit containers), up from 1.13 million a year earlier, it said in a statement. Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, is investing billions in industry, infrastructure and tourism as it diversifies its economy away from oil. "Imports and exports due to the huge infrastructure and industrial projects contributed to the growth in container volumes," said Mohamed Juma al Shamisi, chief executive of Abu Dhabi Ports. Improved shipyard and terminal facilities and services also helped, he said.
Abu Dhabi Port Celebrates Record Year for Cargo
Abu Dhabi Ports, which manages nine commercial, logistics, community and leisure ports in the UAE capital and Khalifa Port, celebrated a record year for cargo containers with a 26 per cent growth in 2014 over the previous year. Khalifa Port, built on a man-made island, handled 1.13 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit containers) in 2014, representing growth of 26 percent, Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT). The new Khalifa port began operations in late 2012 to take over container traffic from the existing Mina Zayed Port. “2014 had been the busiest year at Khalifa Port Container Terminal and the fifth straight year that our compound year-on-year growth has risen more than 20 per cent,” Martijn van de Linde, ADT’s Chief Executive Officer, said in a statement.

The reel weighted up to 130 MT & measurements of up to 9.40 X 6.128 X 9.40 (Mtrs). It is destined for Oil and Gas Project in the Abu Dhabi. Last December, EXG had carried 2 Reels 284 MT each & measurements of up to 9.38 X 5.91 X 9.20 (Mtrs). They were destined for 3 Well Head Platform Project in the Abu Dhabi. Like last time,the said movement was also absolutely critical and time bound.
QM2 Visit Boosts UAE as Cruise Ship Destination
Cunard cruise ship 'Queen Mary 2', is set to make its maiden call in the capital on 29th January. Queen Mary 2’s stop in Abu Dhabi is part of her 2013 World Voyage – a 106-day voyage from Southampton in the UK which will take in five continents – and is considered a significant boost to the UAE capital as it increasingly becomes an established global cruise destination. Officials believe the visit will boost Abu Dhabi’s profile as it seeks to receive 180,000 cruise passengers in the current cruise season.
Middle East Port Handles Last Container
Mina Zayed, Abu Dhabi's main port for more than 40 years, redirects container ships to Khalifa Port near Taweelah, UAE. Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) has completed the switch three months ahead of schedule and less than three months after Khalifa Port began commercial operations at the start of September, reports 'The National'. However, Mina Zayed, which opened in June 1972 making it just six months younger than the UAE, will continue to operate, with the opening of a new cruise liner terminal serving downtown Abu Dhabi, and berths to handle dry bulk cargo, such as grain and steel for infrastructure projects, and roll-on/roll-off trailers. Last year, Mina Zayed handled about 770,000 TEUs, a 47 per cent increase on the number of containers handled the previous year.
Abu Dhabi’s Khalifa Port Deploys Navis SPARCS N4
Region’s first semi-automated terminal relies on SPARCS N4 to handle next generation container ships & higher rates of container exchange. Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation, announce that Khalifa Port, located in Abu Dhabi, UAE, has successfully launched commercial operations with the company’s advanced terminal operating system (TOS), SPARCS N4. Abu Dhabi Charters Two Cruise Ships as Floating Hotels
Abu Dhabi's Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) has chartered two cruise ships which will be berthed in the UAE capital as floating hotels from tomorrow until the end of February to ease heightened accommodation demand in the city as a result of major events and exhibitions. The 401 room New Flamenco, operated by Florida's Elysian Ship Management Inc, and the 274 room Ocean Majesty, operated by Majestic International Cruises based in Greece, complete with a combined crew complement of around 450, will offer convenient accommodation during their berth at the capital's Mina Zayed Free Port. UAE Takes Stand Regarding Oil Smuggling
The United Arab Emirates, battling one of the worst oil spills to affect its coastline in years, reportedly has stepped up measures against tankers smuggling Iraqi oil in defiance of a U.N. embargo. The UAE decision comes after a sanctions-busting Iraqi tanker, the Zainab, sank off the coast of Dubai, causing an oil slick that has spread to the country's northern shores. The tanker, which was carrying 1,300 tons of fuel oil, was one of two ships seized in UAE waters last week after they were intercepted by a multinational sanctions-enforcing force. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs said that a special committee that the sanction-busting ships would be confiscated and their owners prosecuted.
