Fueltrax Opens Vessel Operations Center in Kuala Lumpur

Electronic Fuel Management Systems (EFMS) company Fueltrax reports it has opened a Vessel Operations Center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.This is Fueltrax’s second such center and the first outside of the company’s headquarters in the U.S. It provides closer-to-region coverage for Asia-Pacific customers.Ruben DeLeon, Fueltrax’s Vice President of Product Support, drew on his seven-year tenure at NASA's Mission Control Center in driving the establishment of the Kuala Lumpur facility.As DeLeon explains…

IMRF, McMurdo Partner on SAR Initiatives

The IMRF, the charity supporting maritime SAR service globally, and McMurdo, a company in search and rescue and maritime domain awareness solutions, announced a partnership aiming at several key search and rescue (SAR) initiatives to be launched at next week’s World Maritime Rescue Congress in Bremerhaven, Germany. Working together the IMRF and McMurdo will target some of the key challenges facing maritime SAR globally including rescue team training, the safety of artisanal fishermen and the emerging requirements of SAR services managing the unsafe mixed migration by sea.

NOAA Satellites Help Rescue 240 People Last Year

Last year, 240 people were saved from potentially life-threatening situations throughout the United States and its surrounding waters with help from NOAA’s fleet of weather satellites. In addition to their role in weather forecasting, NOAA’s polar-orbiting and geostationary satellites can detect distress signals from emergency beacons carried by downed pilots, shipwrecked boaters and stranded hikers. Information captured from these satellites, including location, are then relayed to first responders on the ground who assist with search and rescue efforts.

McMurdo Awarded $6m in SAR Contracts

Techno-Sciences, Inc. (TSi), the recently-acquired company of McMurdo Group, the end-to-end search and rescue (SAR) and maritime domain awareness division of Orolia (NYSE Alternext Paris – FR0010501015 – ALORO), announced that is has been selected by the Governments of Cyprus, Brunei, Argentina and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the United States to deploy their SAR network infrastructure solutions and next-generation MEOSAR (Medium Earth Orbit Search and Rescue) systems, totaling nearly $6 million. The wins fortify McMurdo Group’s global SAR leadership and include the deployment of a six-channel MEOSAR system in South America, a two-channel MEOSAR extension in the U.S. and Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) software for a European and Asian SAR authority.

McMurdo Establishes Americas Headquarters

McMurdo Group, a company in end-to-end search and rescue (SAR) and maritime domain awareness (MDA) solutions, announced that it has formally established its Americas Headquarters in Beltsville, Maryland located within the Baltimore (Maryland)/Washington D.C. metropolitan area. The new headquarters, a result of McMurdo’s recent acquisition of Techno-Sciences, Inc., will also be home to the group’s Search and Rescue Center of Excellence which will include a distribution warehouse and an advanced research and development team.

MNZ & AMSA Award McMurdo COSPAS-SARSAT Contract

McMurdo Group’s Techno-Sciences Inc. says it has been chosen by the Australia Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) and Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) to deploy their next-generation satellite-aided search and rescue systems. The MEOSAR (Medium-altitude Earth Orbit Search and Rescue) installations will be the first such systems in Asia Pacific and will significantly reduce the time between a distress beacon activation and the resulting emergency alert notification from hours to minutes, greatly accelerating the rescue coordination effort by SAR personnel. NOAA Satellites Helped Save 253 People in 2013

The same NOAA satellites that helped forecasters predict severe weather, such as the Moore, Okla., tornado last May and November’s deadly Midwest tornado outbreak, also played a key role in rescuing 253 people from potentially life-threatening scenarios throughout the United States and its surrounding waters last year. A combination of NOAA polar-orbiting and geostationary satellites detected distress signals from emergency beacons carried by downed pilots, shipwrecked boaters and stranded hikers and relayed information about their location to first responders on the ground.

Singapore Dignitary Visits Innovative US Navy Ship

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean visited USS Freedom, July 12, while the ship was moored at Changi Naval Base. Mr. Teo, a former Republic of Singapore Chief of Navy, visited the U.S. Navy's first-of-class littoral combat ship as she prepares to participate in Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Singapore next week - an annual bilateral exercise with the Republic of Singapore Navy in its 19th year. Mr. Teo also serves as Singapore's Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs.
