Containership Cutbacks on Asia to Mexico/South America Route

Hamburg Süd and CCNI on the one hand and China Shipping, Hanjin and Hyundai on the other have reached agreement on optimizing their service offering during the forthcoming slack season between Asia and Mexico/South America West Coast with effect from mid-November 2011. To this end, the partners’ three slings will be reduced to two. Sling 1 of the new service will see the deployment of eleven 5,500 TEU vessels (nominal), of which Hamburg Süd is to provide ten and CCNI one. In Sling 2 ten container ships with a capacity between 3,100 and 4,500 TEU (nominal) will be deployed. Of these, CCNI, China Shipping and Hanjin will each deploy three vessels and Hyundai one.

"Monte" Class Ship Christened in Hong Kong

Monte Aconcagua, the last of a series of ten of Hamburg Süd's 5,552 TEU "Monte" class, was christened May 29, 2009 in . The container ship's sponsor was Luise Klus, daughter of Dr Ingeborg von Schubert, Chairlwoman of the Advisory Board of the Gundlach Group, . Following the naming ceremony, the "Monte Aconcagua" was phased into Hamburg Süd's - South Africa/South America East Coast Service (New Good Hope Express). In addition, Hamburg Süd will be adding three additional "" class vessels to its fleet until the end of the year.
